.ofx file extension causing me problems

I am absolutely delighted with Moneydance, of which I have now been a very happy user for several years.
However, I recently encountered an unexpected problem.

As a keen photographer/videographer I deal a lot with filter effects in my video-editing. OpenFX (see Wikipedia) typically have the .ofx extension, which of course in Moneydance's world represents OFX.com, the money transfer people.

When my recent attempt to update a plugin failed, and I discovered that the .ofx file on my machine was listed as filetype: 'OFX Financial Data', which I suspect was causing the problem (I have asked the software company via email to confirm my suspicions!)

So my question is: Can I simply change the .ofx file association in Windows 10 or should I do it somehow within Moneydance.
Either way, what are the implications, if any, for my Moneydance program??

Looking forward to your reply.

Many thanks,

    I'm a fellow user.

The ofx file extension has nothing to do with ofx.com, it relates to Open Financial Exchange, https://www.ofx.net/ Their use of the ofx extension goes back over 20 years.

By not associating the ofx extension with Moneydance really only has limited implications.

If it is associated then double clicking on a ofx file starts Moneydance and proceeds to do an import.

If it is not associated and you have a ofx file to import you need to start Moneydance and select to do an import and navigate and select the file to import, hence it makes it slightly more manual.

Associating files with Moneydance is more of a convenience thing, for example typically I do not associate CSV files with Moneydance I associate them with my spreadsheet program.
