If an entry auto-creates from a reminder and you want to edit the recorded txn split amounts, you just edit the amount... That's it...? No re-creation needed..?

When I start a new transaction and enter the date, then tab over to the Description and start typing my Payee (in Quicken lingo), it suggests a name/store/company I've used in the past. Wonderful. I start typing "Pea" and it suggests Peavey and I want Peavey!. Now I press Tab and it goes over to the Category field and automatically opens the split window. Now, last time I was there I bought jeans and a bird feeder so I have 2 splits and their amounts. This time, I didn't buy those things, just a hay fork.

I cannot close the split window, change the total amount and go redo my split (if I would need to split off, say, the tax). I have to delete my split lines down to one, close the split window, enter my new total and tab back to change the Category.

My suggestion: Allow me the option to have the Description and Category auto-created but not the amount nor the memo. I almost never pay the same amount at a store.

Does this help?

Marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489119962020-12-17T17:01:52Z2020-12-17T17:01:52ZAuto-Create transaction suggestion

Ah, sorry, I thought you meant from Reminders.. Get you now... BUT, you don't need to leave the split window to change the total amount; as you amend / delete / change the splits then the total amount changes with you..? If you go down to one split, then when you say done, you end up with a no split txn..?

I'll assume that you are entering the transaction based on a receipt so that you know the amount.

Try entering the amount of the transaction first then proceed with entering the Date > Tab > Description/Payee

Doing so will circumvent the automatic opening of the Split Window.

You can still decide whether or not you want to split the transaction.

Yes, I realize that. My own personal error control comes in controlling the final amount. That's the amount I paid. If my split isn't quite right then at least the total still properly balances the statement. The other reason I want to work with the total and work backwards. For example if I buy a bunch of stuff for my car and one item is household then I can make my first split entry as household. Then the remainder is my car stuff and I don't have to add it all up and so on.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489119962020-12-17T18:19:04Z2020-12-17T18:19:04ZAuto-Create transaction suggestion

I get it.. Do you realise the split window shows you the total bottom left as you go? Also, you can type maths into the amount fields to help you resolve problems.... e.g. if you directly type 100/2+1 into the amount field, you get 51 for example. I use this to help me do what you are looking for...

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489119962020-12-17T19:06:54Z2020-12-17T19:06:56ZAuto-Create transaction suggestion

Stuart
Yes, I appreciate that I can do math in the split amount window. Thanks.

Marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489119962021-01-07T23:18:49Z2021-01-07T23:18:50ZAuto-Create transaction suggestion

Kevin
That works (entering amount first). It's a pain in the rear but it kinda works. It doesn't autofill the Category when I select the Payee/Description (Description is sure a stupid way to title that data field) but neither does it auto-split.

Mark
