File extensions - .md is used for markdown files

Problem: the .md file extension is now widely used for "markdown" files, and when I double click e.g., it gets opened by Moneydance, which gets confused. I'd like .md files to be associated with a text editor instead.

Question: can I safely change the association of .md files from Moneydance to Notepad++ without causing problem in Moneydance?

Yes. No issue. In fact I believe that later versions of MD don’t use .MD but I could be wrong on the last point.

This is the change log from Build 2005

    Moneydance build 2005 (Tue, 20 Oct 2020 01:30:00)

    • Fixed insets on summary page shortcuts panel
    • Default to the currently selected account when importing
    • Tweak to Windows font to hopefully handle non-western characters better
    • No longer register the .md file extension on the mac

Thanks both. Re-pointed the association and the world didn't end

.md was the file extenion used by Moneydance 2011 and earlier data files so is largely not needed by Moneydance anymore as the software has moved to a different data structure.

I don't believe that we've used .md as the extension for Moneydance data files since the 2011 version. Everything should be .moneydance now. I think the association was kept for a few versions because that would make it easier for people to open their older files in the newer versions, and be able to clearly identify older files. We probably didn't need to wait this long to end the file extension registration.
