A Right-Click, Context-Sensitive Copy-Cut-Paste Context-Sensitive, Pop-Up Menu
I simply do not believe you people. I have requested several times over the past few years that you include in Moneydance the simplest and most basic feature that virtually every program, both Mac and Windows, has been using for YEARS, to wit, a right-click popup menu that offers the ability to Copy, Cut, and Paste. And still you people couldn't find the time to implement it in yet another major release. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am.
It might seem a trivial addition but even after years of using Moneydance, I STILL find myself right clicking in the register in order to copy or paste something like I do in EVERY OTHER APP on my system–and NOTHING happens. An OS is supposed to offer alternatives to a user to accomplish a certain task because each of us is different and if you find Cmd-V and Cmd-C the most efficient way to paste and copy–I and other users might not. Maybe someday my grandchildren, or their grandchildren, will be able to celebrate the inclusion of such a popup menu with Copy-Cut-Paste options within Moneydance; I, apparently, won't be around for those festivities.

just a user
Sugar usually works better than vitriol.
May I suggest you consider your post, consider the verbiage, rewrite it, then post again?
I'd think you might get a more considered response.

BTW - I have the same issue - as the menu items are often blanked out and I have to rely on the command keys. Still, polite requests are usually received better than what appear to be demands.

To dtd: Seriously, thanks for the input. What you read is a little bit of frustration vented by a paying customer who's used Moneydance for over 10 years, not vitriol. I've done application programming. Functionality as I suggest is built-in to the operating system's API. It just has to be implemented. Additionally, I don't think I've requested some functionality that is outside of the bounds of Moneydance.
I do appreciate you taking the time to express your thoughts–sincerely.

You say when you right click in the register “Nothing Happens” I presume you are talking about when you are making a new manual entry? I can understand that you may want to paste in some text from elsewhere, but don’t understand why you would want to use copy or cut before you have made an entry.
When I right click an existing item in the register, I get a very full list of options with at least 30 different choices being available. I find the list extremely useful & would hate it to just be the few options you are requesting.
One of them is “Duplicate Transaction” is that not the same as your requested Copy?
Another is “Delete” is that not similar to your requested Cut?
Perhaps you are right clicking somewhere else & I have misunderstood your request. But the various key combos tend to be requested more then simple right mouse clicks. Something like CTR+N I use all the time instead of having to direct my mouse to the top right hand corner. Key Combos don’t interrupt the typing flow, reaching for the mouse certainly does.

I'm not quite sure why I'm responding to your comments but...
...I'm not sure what relevance YOUR not understanding something has to do with my request. The phrase "nothing happens" is in the context of the Copy-Cut-Paste functionality, of course. Also, the source and destination of my copying, cutting, and/or pasting is irrelevant to my request.
You must hsve the supercharged version of Moneydance to have "at least 30 different choices" appear in your popup menus. In the register, I have only 14 in my version. I'm not sure how you could possibly deduce from my original post that I want anything removed from any menu. I requested that three (or four) items be added to existing popup menus, when warranted. I'd hate for any current choices to be removed, too.
(All I have been requesting is that when I highlight something in Moneydance, a popup menu appear when I right click allowing me copy/cut/delete that item with the mouse like virtually all other programs have. Or when I place the insertion point in a particular spot, I can paste using the mouse only like I can do in virtually all other programs. I want nothing removed from anywhere.)
Do you really think that duplicating an entire transaction is even remotely the same as highlighting and copying a single field of that transaction. Think about it.
Also, you're only 50% correct in your comparison of "Delete" and "Cut" functioality. First, if they were the same, you wouldn't need both, would you? That would mean software developers for the past 35 years got it all wrong. You see, there is one critically important difference between the two commands. I'll let you figure out what it is.
Your final paragraph is not worth commenting on--which means I will anyway. Yes, you did misunderstand what I wrote. Modern operating systems were designed to give each user options that make using that OS more comfortable for that particular individual to use. On what studies do you base your statement about key combinations being more requested than simple right mouse clicks? In virtually all software I've used (or written), both keyboard combinations AND context-sensitive popup menus are added without the need for customer surveys or customer requests. (It might surprise you to know that I use both the keyboard and the mouse to do certain things at certain times, depending on how I want to do them at that time.) How YOU choose to set up a workflow is YOUR business. You can't assume that your methods and your conclusions should/would necessarily work for me or for any other user, however.
BOTTOM LINE: All I have been requesting for years is that Moneydance include a bit of functionality that appears in virtually every other program ever written. I've made my point. They choose not to do it so I'm not going to request it again. I just upgraded and I'll use Moneydance forever and ever. End of Rant.
I do seriously appreciate your comments, though. If nothing else, they add additional opinions and theygot my heart beating faster and blood flowing to my brain. Carry On, Fellow User.
