hide pointer when typing

The scenario: I want to edit the title of a transaction. I double-click the title. The title highlights, and the mouse pointer changes to an insertion symbol. Then I start typing to replace the transaction.

What happens: The insertion symbol remains visible, obscuring the text I'm trying to type.

What I expected to happen: The insertion symbol disappears, and only reappears when I move the mouse again. (That's how other Mac apps work.)

    Hi Arlo,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance

Would it be possible to see a screenshot of the issue?
You can read instructions for taking a screenshot here:
    https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

    Thank you

This is version 2021.1 (3069). I've been using the app for years and I think the problem has always been there.

macOS doesn't include the pointer in screen shots, but I took a couple photos. The first shows the transaction after double-clicking the memo to edit it; the second shows it after I've typed replacement text. In other Mac apps, the pointer would still be visible at that first step, but would hide when I start typing so it doesn't obscure what I'm typing.

Thank you for the additional information, Arlo!

Since you are entitled to a free upgrade to Moneydance 2022, I would recommend downloading and installing Moneydance 2022.3 (4063) as this should improve the issue you are seeing.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

    Hello,

I finally updated to the current version, 2022.4 (4087), and the pointer
blocking the text entry issue is the same as I described before. I hope
your team can look into it.

    Thanks,
    -Arlo

Just an observation.... What you describe seems to vary between Mac programs.

For example, the insertion symbol disappears in MacOS Numbers, but doesn't in Excel.

If you use your mouse to enter a field to change it in MD, yes the insertion symbol gets in the way, but if you TAB round the entries, say starting at date it doesn't. I've not really noticed it before as I'm a TAB user!

    Hello,

You're right about Excel, but I've never noticed this in other apps.
Apple's own apps are typically the best benchmark for UI details like
this. I just checked Safari and Xcode and you checked Numbers, and they
all hide the cursor when typing begins.

When I download and import transactions from my bank, the dates are
correct, but I usually need to edit the names and categories. So I
double-click the name field and start typing. I could double-click the
date field instead and tab to the name field, but that would add an
unnecessary step to my workflow, similar to what I'm doing now, moving
my hand back to the mouse to wave the pointer out of the way repeatedly.

I hope MoneyDance can eliminate the need for either workaround by
    adopting this Mac convention.

Does this happen with all MD Themes?

I didn't even know MoneyDance had themes. I'm using the Default theme
    and have never changed it.

Yes, that's my point.... Pls try an alternative theme just as a test to see if your issue remains or changes... Menu/Moneydance/Preferences/Appearance/Themes

I just tried two other themes and the problem was the same.
