Do you mean your bank connection passwords? If so, you can do this, but for security reasons you will first need to set a master password for your data file. File -> Passwords from the menu bar.

If that's not what you mean, please explain in more detail which password you are referring to.

One could remove that password through the same menu if one wanted. But then as a security measure one wouldn't be able to store bank passwords in the data file either, if you use those connections. And then of course anyone who has access to your computer or data file can also then access everything in it.

If that's still not what you mean, perhaps you could attach a screenshot of what you are seeing when you are being asked for your password? There aren't really passwords in the program beyond what I described.

I’ve attached a screen shot of it.

So, are you saying that if I remove that password it affects my downloads of updated stock prices or fund transactions from Financial places?

Removing the master password will not affect the download of prices using the Quotes and Exchange Rates or Quote Loader extensions. however if you do not have a master password set Moneydance will NOT allow you to save the passwords for downloads from financial institutions.

This is for security as without a master password anyone that gains access to your computer could extract you bank login details.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/496046122022-01-19T03:27:06Z2022-01-19T03:27:06ZAllow Password to be SAVED

just a user

Similarly, if you could bypass YOUR password (i.e. save it) the same thing would happen if your computer were compromised (i.e. stolen) - the thief could open moneydance and, if allowed, would automatically bypass your password.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/496046122022-01-19T15:39:28Z2022-01-19T20:40:53ZAllow Password to be SAVED

Hi Tim,

If you want the convenience of Moneydance remembering your financial institution passwords and you are not all that concerned about the security provided by the master password then, as a workaround, you could simply create a weak master password.

One character is enough to constitute a master password - even a blank space.

When prompted for your master password, use key combo

< your one character > then ENTER

Know and understand that a weak master password creates a security risk.

I understand. Thank you !

Timtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/496046122022-01-22T21:39:13Z2022-01-22T21:39:13ZAllow Password to be SAVED

I'm glad to hear things seem to be sorted out. To clarify, this password is indeed for your data file, not the program itself. The reason you are being presented with that password dialogue when you start the program is that you have it set to automatically open the previous file you had open upon launch. If for example you created a new data file, or changed the settings to go to the Welcome Screen upon launch, you wouldn't be asked for a password until you tried to open a data file that had one. I think that's what the initial confusion was about.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
