Account day should always be today , Duplicated transactions too

I often leave Moneydance open for multiple days.

When I make a new entry it defaults to the day I last opened the program. Generally is should always be "today" because people are entering new transactions.

Same goes with duplicating a transaction. It is a time saver and usually to make a new entry on the day your are duplicating (today).

The counter position is that some people do not use Moneydance daily and may enter transaction in bulk, say at the end of the week, in which case every new transaction defaulting to the current day would be equally annoying rather than the current position where it defaults to the date of the transaction you have just entered.

What work best depends on the persons usage.

I would like to see it as "Today" when you enter a transaction "Today" No matter where you were last ... If you want to post as of another day ... Then change it to that date ... IMHO ...

Nope. Totally disagree. I go with what dwg says - I go in, and I'm entering receipts from let's say three days ago. Would be TOTALLY irritating for MD to constantly go to a different date.

And actually, you already have what you want, just enter ONE transaction by changing the date to "today" and from that point on, it will stay "today".

It can be even simpler. Hitting "t" in the date field changes the date to "Today". Hitting "-" or "+" in the date field decrements or increments the shown date by a day.

I rarely use the calendar, date entry or date picker anymore. Almost everything that I enter is within 5 days before or after "today" and I just use the T, + and - to get to that date. Quick and simple and works for anybody.

Tony - a fellow user, who would hate for the current date behaviour to change!

    +1 for no change
PS. Also, type in any number from 01 to 31 - and it would automatically apply that date for the current month. Typing dates past 31 also result in a later date - but I've yet to understand the logic on that ( which is not so important I guess - but should not be allowed ).

    From one Jeff to another,

There is a side issue here. It’s not really good practice full stop to leave your Dataset open for “multiple days”.

Moneydance does housekeeping on start up & shutdown, particularly making daily incremental backups of your precious financial data. If you closed MD down at the end of the day, your issue goes away!

+1 leave it as it is.

But you could make it a configurable item. People could the set the default of either today's date or date of last transaction entered on this account.

    Everyone wins!
