Extension: Custom Balances - suggestions

Suggestions for Custom Balances:
1/
Since each row is identified by a row number, perhaps better to also display the row number against each item.
2/
Ideally, would be nice to click on one of those items - and to get into its transaction window. However, I realise there may be multiple accounts added and this is not possible/practical - except for a report.
3/
In the configuration, re. bottom window with list of accounts - and selected accounts highlighted.
With an extensive list of accounts - and multiple accounts selected, it is not easy to identify which accounts were selected and to be sure of the list. I think a split window option ( either left and right - or top and bottom ) would perhaps provide more clarity to the user.
In the case of a "left and right window" option, it would be similar to the accounts adding area in the GRAPHS & REPORTS feature of moneydance. But this would include the same search/filter field as well - to make it easier to find and add them.
4/
Additionally, in configuration, would be good if double-clicking an account/category would open the transactions window for that account/category. This will indirectly address point #2 I suppose.

on the expand/collapse option - this is also missing in the settings/config options for Custom Balances.
The bottom window shows a never ending list of accounts - and it is almost impossible to figure out if you have clicked more than one account/category - and if they are the right ones.
I feel selected accounts/categories/whatever should be 'moved' to another window. So - if I have selected say 3 out of 100 account/categories for one custom balance - I know for sure only these 3 are selected because I can see them seperately ( and I dont have to scroll endlessly up and down to figure this out ).
Hope I'm making sense..

Changes take 10 seconds to appear. Correct. This is deliberate to allow for changes to settle down / stop before running ‘expensive’ calculations. For example if you are doing a bank download then you don’t want this running for each change to a single txn.

Compare the CUSTOM BALANCES account/category list against the same list in
your MEGA SEARCH.
The Mega Search permits manually collapsing/expanding each group header.
Additionally, you also added the EXPAND/COLLAPSE ALL option. This one is
the better of the two. Would help to be uniform in all areas.
PS. The BIGGEST kicker is the left pane on the dashboard not having this
expand/collapse/search feature. Frustration.. but that is not the scope of
this topic.

Mega search simply reuses the internal MD tools/accounts window and adds a few things (Hackery). The code base is completely different and custom-balances would need a major rewrite to achieve this. Sorry, this is a long term thing. Nothing can be done quickly.

I meant to say - a auto-hide amount configurable for each account/category
in its setup/edit page. But I guess I know where this is leading to..

I am/was just commenting on what is better. Perhaps food for thought for a
later stage or upgrade.

Updated PREVIEW(1020) on my site.. I have reduced the 10 second delay after account balance changed listeners to 3 seconds.. Also reduced initial blinking delay...

Refer various extensions - especially CUSTOM BALANCES.
Please can you incorporate an option to backup and restore the settings ?
I have a neat number of custom balances and busy creating even more. However, I've just moved to a new computer and find that I have to rebuild this all over again. Would be great if there would be a way to backup the settings and import/restore it again.

Hi Stu - please ignore my previous note. I find that CUSTOM BALANCES has now appeared on my dashboard - but for some reason - it took some time to appear. Installed build 1020 - but I guess this is the signed version from moneydance. The same ver-1020 on your site may be more updated but unsigned )

Custom balances settings will be backed up,as part of moneydance file/export backup and file/restore backup.
If you need a manual backup then there is a settings file that can be manually copied.

Hello Stu. Just found something gone wonky with the ROW FORMATTING SEPERATOR in Custom Balances. Cannot really figure out what is wrong.. but...
I had a custom-balance with a seperator.
I duplicated the custom-balance ( the new one only needed a FY date change ) but it somehow carried the seperator - and now I cannot remove it ( even after moving/deleting that new duplicate ).
Perhaps you can have a look at it. But right now - I have a seperate line between two custom-balances - and both have NONE selected as the seperator.

just a user - I've also tested this extension extensively... ;) and there are occasionally leftover anomalies that resolve themselves on a restart. And sometimes it isn't even Custom Balances fault - I get very tired of how the Summary page jumps this way, that way, to and fro, especially during downloads - but also other places - and sometimes doesn't even resolve - you have to leave the summary page and return to it.

yes dtd. agree on the page moving around. Most annoying is the reports - when you have to pick accounts - and the account selection page pans across your screen and beyond. Often have to pull my eyes back together ! So many updates due..
Stu.. one other suggestion if I may for custom balances. In your next update to this ( whenever it may be ), would help if the blinking-values could be given a yellow background colour - so it catches the eye. That option works great - but it is still not an eye-catcher ( as yet ) ...

Well 1021 you should just be able to update - 1022 you get from Stuart's page - until it's finally accepted.
Go get 1022 - you can change colors, fonts, justification, make things deliberately blank (for tables and such) - and if you know html - <#html> is amazing (but you do need to know html)

1021 - yes I see the update available. Not sure why it does not alert me when I start moneydance. I see there is a Future Reminders update as well. Frustration building in now.. :(

That red bar on moneydance just annoys me - so wont mind waiting a little longer ( and get notified). I've got quite a list of custom balances - so need all the space I can get. Would be nice if Custom-Balances can use that space but have 2 column - to sort of double its capacity on the dashboard.

The first link has custom balances and v1022 as the link - and yes - you have to live with the red line - it has already been submitted for "approval" or "blessing", but it doesn't happen quickly.
