Entering split transactions

I frequently need to enter repeat split transactions for a particular merchant. While these merchants almost always require a split transaction, rarely are two successive ones identical. When I start an entry for such a merchant, the 'auto-complete' feature brings up the previous transaction for that merchant. If it is a split, I have to go into that previous transaction and delete all but one of the split entries before I can begin to enter the data for the new transaction.

With the latest version of Moneydance (2022.4), this now seems to require one extra step than previously. Once I enter (part of) the merchant's name and see that there is a split involved, I have to enter <command-L> to get the old split to show (and this is the extra step not previously required), then select individual transactions in the split one-by-one and delete them until there is only one left, and then hit <Done> to get back to the basic register to start my new entry. And it's a mixture of mouse and keyboard operations.

That is a lot of steps to do this, and perhaps someone can suggest a simpler way. The ideal, of course, would be a keyboard operation or clickable button to simply delete all existing split items, so that I could immediately get on with putting in the new data. But anything reasonably intuitive that simplifies things would be welcome.

Thanks,
Paul.

    Hi, I'm a fellow user.
I've seen others suggest that entering the merchant info LAST allows one to avoid the auto-complete altogether and hence start with a blank transaction. Not sure if that will help, and I agree that the newer behavious is a backward step and should be reverted.

Thanks. That works and it's slightly easier, but it's still extra operations to Tab over to the Amount then <shift-tab> back to the merchant's name. And only necessary if there actually is an old split, and I don't always know whether there will be one or not.

Perhaps IK can look at this and see whether something can be done?

    Hi Paul,

I posted on this change a couple of weeks ago and just checked in to see the status and found your thread. I referenced it in my thread and asked for an update.

Maddy has now posted that it's been raised on their ticketing system and they'll be keeping an eye on my thread, with posts to it being considered 'votes'. So please add your interest in seeing this fixed by posting to my thread, too. Here it is: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/general-questions/122811-splits-no-longer-open-automatically-with-moneydance-2022

    Cheers.
