order transactions correctly within the same date

I always keep my transaction list sorted by date ascending, with the most recent transactions at the bottom. I've noticed that when I import transactions downloaded from my bank accounts, transactions on the same date are reversed compared to how they're listed on the bank statement -- as if Moneydance is sorting by date ascending, but time descending. Then today I manually entered three transactions for the same date and noticed that those also appear in the reverse order of how I entered them -- with the first transaction at the bottom of the list, instead of the last transaction as I would expect.

If I change the transaction list to sort by date descending, then the transactions with the same date are sorted as expected, in order of time. So it looks like you need to change the date sorting to apply the direction to both the date and the time. Then if I sort by date descending, later transactions will always appear above earlier transactions, and if I sort by date ascending, later transactions will always appear below earlier transactions.

This would make reconciling against a bank statement a lot easier because I can just go down the list in order rather than jumping around in the list whenever I have multiple transactions on the same date.

    I'm a fellow user.

Are you changing the sort order by clicking the arrow in the column header?

What happens if you right-click a transaction in the register and choose Sort by | Date Entered?

Yes, I was sorting by clicking the Date column heading.

Interesting -- if I sort by right-clicking and selecting a column name, the sorting works as expected whether I choose Date or Date Entered. So now I have a workaround for the main Transactions list.

I still see the incorrect sorting (date ascending but time descending) in the Reconcile window, which as far as I can tell can only be sorted by clicking the Date column. Hopefully it's a simple fix to make the sorting by clicking a column name work the same way as the sorting by right-clicking and selecting a column name.

Hmm - as to the reconciliation window sorting, I don't have any insight to offer.

If by "a simple fix", you mean a hint or trick, then someone else will need to jump in.

If by "a simple fix", you're hoping the development team will change the behaviour then I imagine that would be considered an enhancement and you could add the suggestion to the "Suggestions" forum, but there's a looong tail of outstanding enhancement requests, and I wouldn't imagine this one necessarily jumping to the top of any list just because it shouldn't be difficult. There's hundreds fit that bucket!

BUT I'm only a fellow user, so it's worth a bash! Perhaps others will jump in and cause a resounding clamour. It's not something that I have any use case for. I usually sort by check number in that window when sorting is necessary.
