Splits for investment register
Please consider allowing split transactions (even if only for XFR transactions).
When I do stock sales I always end up having to pay...
- Fed taxes
- State taxes
- local taxes.
... etc.
Fidelity takes care of this - automatically withdrawing a lump sum (but giving me a breakdown). I'd like to be able to track that breakdown as part of the XFR record.
Thanks

Have you tried switching to the Bank Register in the Investment Account and entering a split transaction?
In the Investment Register Moneydance is using splits to interact between the Investment account and the security sub-account for the various investment actions.

On the surface that would make sense... but I've seen tons of weird transactions/behavior with the Bank Register for an investment account, and in seeing others report the same behavior one I saw a reply (from a SME?) to just ignore the Bank Register.

FWIW - I tried this, and while the total $$ does correspondingly show up in the Register View the fact that it's a split transaction leads to odd display in the Transfer and Fee Category fields in the Register view --> MD just picks 2 of the 5 split category (that I had in my Bank Register transaction) to display, and there's no indiciation that it's a split

The split is only understood by the bank register, the Investment register does not understand the transaction so it can only display it as a XFR and it does its bet to map the fields. Some refinement to the mapping could possibly be done.

Maybe if there a way to indicate it better that it was a split and direct the user back to the Bank Register?
But even then with the Bank Register data generally-speaking pretty much useless my idea would just lead to other issues.
Is it not possible to fix the Bank Register in the first place, and then somehow allow a split transaction to be indicated in the Register and Bank Register views? For example: all of my cash transfers (deposits) from paychecks show up in both the Register and Bank Register... but when I purchase stock it only records the case decrease in the Register --> the Bank Register just spirals up and up to an ever-increasing positive # is which not correct. I'm wondering why it's even shown in the first place.

The Bank register was adding in about Moneydance 2014, the goal was to support investment accounts that allow you to use them like a cheque account, the comment has been made in the past that perhaps the balance column should not be shown in this register view.
