Copying transaction details

There seems to be no way to copy the details of selected transactions. Using the Toolbox Total Selected Transactions extension, you can get close. You can select and copy some of the values but all.

Perhaps you can explain in more detail what values you are trying to copy, and why? Ie what are you trying to do with the results?

I have transactions in an account register that I want to select, copy the details, and paste into a note or an email. Ideally, highlight the transaction, press Cmd/Control + C to copy the information.

Ok. So description, memo, date, amount etc?

Right click the txn then show record / transaction details. Does that get close?

    Thanks Stuart

I have never noticed this option. It seems you can use it for a single transaction. This is what the result is:

    0.acctid: 9f9a97b1-7a54-4583-a9e4-87e050c216e9
    0.desc: SVK Phonics
    0.id: bd4539a9-d64d-4f31-973f-0a9e7ddbe68f
    0.obj_type:
    0.oldid: -1
    0.pamt: -1800
    0.samt: 1800
    0.tags:
    acctid: 81e153ed-b944-490a-8166-223d4e5ec0f8
    chk:
    desc: SVK Phonics
    dt: 20230625
    dtentered: 1687608543981
    id: 62a825e7-4ede-46bf-a9d5-56b5b4a611b2.20230625
    memo: Phonics software
    obj_type: txn
    oldid: -1
    tags:
    td: 20230625
    ts: 1687608543981

It looks like JSON. It might be possible to run this through pandoc and then apply regex to pull meaningful values out — however, that feels is a little like using a chain saw to prune a bonsai.

What would be really helpful would be a right click or menu option to copy what I see in the ledger to my clipboard:

    06/24/2023 CreditCrd JZ Phonics Childcare:Tristan 18.00

Date Checkno Description Category Decrease Increase

And maybe, for bonus points, the Memo and tag fields.

Well of course, I could write an extension to do this for you. Not too hard. But I think it would be unique and just for you and so one else would (probably use it)…. So I’m afraid that’s not really an option.

    Others might have ideas?

With Moneydance it is performing copies using the standard keyboard sequence and it is copying a field value.

The problem is that you want to copy a whole record or multiple fields. Moneydance does not support this.

Thanks, I guess you consider this a feature request!

    I'm a fellow user.

I think you would have to class it as a feature requests as you want an expansion of the clipboard function.

Or, may sound like overkill, but use the "Transactions" or "Transactions Filter" report to narrow down to those transactions and then click "Copy to Clipboard".

Moneydance is really designed to get data out by the use of reports. You need to decide what report best suits your needs and mostly you get more data than what you want.

FWIW "reports" is a little of a misnomer, you are more customising a query as there is no real ability to do anything like change the report layout etc.
