Syncing Moneydance's configuration across Macs
I've recently come to Moneydance after a decade with SEE Finance, and I am enjoying Moneydance a great deal since I've migrated. One thing that would have helped quite a bit (and would still help, actually) is if it were possible to sync or migrate certain configuration attributes across Macs, such as the extensions that were installed (and their options, e.g., custom balances), and the arrangement of items on the start page. Getting my laptop configured the same way as my desktop, particularly as I'm still playing around with things, has been a bit painful. I suspect if this were easy it would have already been done, but I offer this suggestion nonetheless.
James

Not withstanding your enhancement request....
You can do this manually..
For custom balances, there is a backup/restore config menu option you can use.
Inside the dataset package there are often config files for things like QuoteLoadeder:
- e.g. MRBPreferences.dict2
securityquoteload.bpam2
For Home Screen, copy the entries out of config.dict with the:
"gui.home.lefties" = () "gui.home.righties" = () "gui.home.unused" = ()
I agree this is fiddly.. Backup first.. Tinker with care!!!

Stuart, thank you for pointing me to the backup/restore option for Custom Balances. I had quite a few defined and this migrated them nicely. I'm not sure when I would have noticed that option because I run my Mac in dark mode and that particular extension's main page is very hard to read in dark mode.
I probably am not comfortable enough (yet) with the program's data structures to go fiddling in its guts, but nice to know that's an option if I get adventurous.
Related to this syncing issue, I've wondered whether it's safe to have Moneydance open simultaneously on two Macs synced using Dropbox. Getting things to look the same would be easier if I was seeing them both side by side, but I didn't want to tempt fate.

If you are using Moneydance Sync with Dropbox option (and your datasets are saved locally on disk, NOT in dropbox), then yes it's fine to have both open at same time..

Good to know, thanks. My datasets are in their default locations, buried in my user library.

Great (fyi - you can relocate them to a more friendly location).

( PS - I'm the author of Custom Balances, Toolbox, etc etc....
;-> )

Where I’d love to put them is in my Documents folder, but that’s synced to iCloud so as I understand it that would be a bad thing,
I knew you were Mr. Toolbox but wasn’t aware you also did Custom Balances. Very very handy extension for me (even if I can’t read it in dark mode). ;-)
And thank you for taking the time to respond today!

Correct.. It needs to be a non-cloud, and very local on disk folder...
