Budget bars home page widget coloring and target markers
(1) Coloring: when a budget exceeds the set budget amount, the bar turns red; however, the budget target, on the left, remains black, making it hard to read against the dark red budget bar background; a lighter color for the amount text, maybe even white, would make this easier to read.
(2) Budget target marker: when actuals exceed a given budget bar's target, the bar turns red, regardless of whether the budget is exceeded by a little or a lot; the bars might be even more useful, if there was a vertical marker at the budget target (maybe a vertical line). This way, the distance between the budget marker and the actual gives a rough indication of the magnitude of the variance.
(3) Target "coverage" coloring: would it make sense to distinguish in the budget bar's colors, whether a budget exceeded relates to an expense or income item? The dark red is probably well understood for excessive expenses. But for income in excess of the target, perhaps a different shade of green could be offered to convey that there's a difference between exceeding an income and an expense target. This approach, if applied to both expense and income bars, might offer an alternative to the Budget target markers, but I think it would best be used >together< with the Budget target markers.

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestions for improving Moneydance.
I have created new suggestion tickets in our system for the improvements you have requested. The tickets will be reviewed for implementation in a future version of Moneydance.
You can amend the colours of the budget bars within your Appearance preferences (as shown in this article). Select "Customise..." on the right of the "Theme" field. You can amend "Budget Alert Colour" setting to change the colour that's displayed to a lighter shade of red.

Thank you, Jenny! I've changed the color for Budget Alert Colour and that helps with the legibility of the amounts and that helps.
