More graphing options

Hi,
I'd love to see some additional graphing options for Moneydance.

Specifically, the ability to select more than one (but not all) accounts when viewing balances. I'd like to be able to graph the total balance of two accounts over time - my retirement accounts, for example, reside in three separate accounts. Either show three graphs superimposed, or even better would be the total value. Likewise, some people might want to graph total credit card debt, etc.

    Hi Jeff

If the accounts you want to sum together are of the same type you can create a parent account and set it as the parent for each of the accounts you want to report on. Or example if you wanted to see total credit card debt. You could create a new Credit Card account called "Total Credit card Debt". Then edit each of your credit cards to set the new account as the parent. Then when you want to run an account balance report, in the report options selet the "Total Credit card Debt" account and check the box that says "'Include sub accounts".

There is an existing ticket in our suggestions and issue tracking system very similar to your suggestion. Here is the link:

That's a clever suggestion - maybe for a future release, it should be possible automatically to graph all accounts of a certain type.

For some reason, however, I can't set a parent account for my investment accounts, so this suggestion doesn't work for what I really wanted to do. Is there something special about investment accounts that prevents them from having parents? (poor things, are they doomed forever to be orphans?)

I spoke with the developer about the missing option for investment accounts to have parents and he said that it should be an easy fix and that it will make it into MD2010. MD2010 will be a free upgrade to users who bought MD2008 and should be out before then end of 2009.

    Thanks.

Another thing that would be really nice would be able to graph several investments (currencies) on the same graph, but individually. Right now, grouping them under a parent would graph their total value of any children or currencies (holdings). What I'd like to be able to do is see a graph of my investment account, with the values shown individually for each holding. Or possibly, % change could be more useful since the value might be hard to scale.

    Hi Jeff

I think that is a great suggestion. Here is a suggestion ticket for it:

Please vote on the ticket to show your support.
