Adding a 'value date'
Hello,
A 'value date' feature would be great.
For example, we register a transaction in June (i.e.: buying travel tickets) but only want the transaction to be linked to a later time, let's say July (if, for example, the travel tickets are linked to holidays which will take place then).
This, way, reports like 'Income and Expenses' could reflect transactions directly linked to a certain month, while keeping it easy to know the actual transaction date. We could also imagine a parameter for reports : "use transation date / use value date"
As far as I know, the 'Tax date' does not reflect this feature.
Looking forward to hearing your feedback!
Ricardo

A way to do this for significant ‘adjustments’ is to create a sub account under the bank / CC account called ‘allocations’. Whenever there is a large item like this, simply (additionally) create two transactions in the sub account. One that credits the amount on the txn date in the cat and another that debits the cat on the target date. This account should always total to zero. Include this account in all reports for the adjusted dates. When you reconcile, do not include this sub account.
Works for me. I use this for tax allocations and large expenditure in the wrong year.

Thanks for your suggestion.
However this is a workaround... and it sure could be possible and appreciated by the community to have a feature that does that per se.

The Tax date comes closes to this as it provides an alternate date to use in reporting, so can be used to provide a value date for reporting purposes, without a different date reports use the transaction date,
You are wanting to use the idea of accrual accounting to reflect data in a reporting period as well as an actual payment date.
Stuart presented one way of doing this, I have done a similar thing but I use categories for the same exercise.

Thank you for your input dwg. I indeed see that some reports have the possibility to select 'Use Tax Date', but this is not an option for graphs, for example...

Even if another date field was added reports and graphs would still need to be updated to use it.
I think it is more likely to have the Graphs and reports amended to also be able to use the existing tax date where they do not already allow for it.
