Backup the database when opening another one
I am currently working on 3 separate databases. I have changed the backup setting to backup every time when I close the database. Well, this works for one database, but if I change from one database to another then the previous database is not being saved.
I could do a manual backup before changing to another database, but I would rather have an automatic backup done, just like when closing MD.

Hi Gerd,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
Moneydance creates an automatic backup file each time you close your file, until the set number exist, then each file will be updated in turn.
When these files are stored in the default location, they're accessible from Moneydance via Help --> Show Backup Folder.
In other words, when you switch from a data file to another, you should simply restart Moneydance.
Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Odd. I would try again then after switching datasets, wait 5 mins, then grab help/show console and upload that here.

I see you opening Somil, and then when you open Hina.moneydance, I see:
so, it's working.. What's the issue?5 Posted by Gerd on 17 Sep, 2025 12:56 PM
The issue was, that I did not see the normal backup popup, when changing from the Somil to the Hina database. I only get the backup popup when closing MD. So, when changing from one db to another I have to assume that the first db did not get backed up.
I just did another test, and this time I did check the backup directory immediately after changing the db, and I do see a backup there with the current time, even though it did not get the backup popup.

The popup only comes up when you are exiting the software, there is no other way to display the backup notice, when changing data sets the backup indiction comes up in the status bar at the bottom of the Moneydance window.

Absolutely. Watch the status bar at the bottom. It tells you the backup status.
