Feature request: remember CSV settings

I recently moved my main accounts to Charles Schwab. Unfortunately, they don't provide a QFX export, only CSV. Their CSV format does not match up with Moneydance's default field mapping when importing such files. Their files have fields:

"Date","Status","Type","CheckNumber","Description","Withdrawal","Deposit","RunningBalance"

It would be very helpful if the import tool either:

  1. Remembered field mapping on a per account basis (i.e. per ledger)
  2. Provided the ability to define custom saved mappings and choose from the list when doing an import

    Hi James,

Take a look at the CSV Importer extension. It provides for individual Custom Readers. I think it is just what you are looking for.

If you need help setting it up, let me know and I'll try to lend a hand.

Thank you. I am not interested in extensions. In my view, this is core functionality.

    Then you will be limited.

It is the Moneydance architecture that some functions be implemented through extensions so they can then be maintained independently of the main program.

For some other functions it is where the functionality is required by only a subset of users.

I am interested in the ability to import CSV files from brokerage accounts - dividends, reinvested dividends, purchases and sales.

There is a lengthy discussion on this in a Fidelity thread as they have now removed Direct Connect and only provide CSV downloads. Working with CSV files and Investment accounts is not trivial.

As you will see in that thread there are also third party software products, some at a cost, some free that purport to take CSV files and produce OFX and/or QIF files from the data, some include the necessary configuration files other you have to create them yourself.
