Tracking Inventory and Other Non-Money Assets
There should be a way to track inventory and non-money assets such as collectible comic books, cars, cards, etc.
If a person wanted to, maybe they can even track their own furniture, and add a custom value for everything.
This would be very useful.

This can be done with an asset account.

I have tried, he. I made an asset account. You can only add transactions in there which only tracks dollars. How do I track that I have 10 comic books, and their names? Let's say Superman #1 worth $100 or Spiderman #6 worth $200. How do I then get a list of all the comic books and their values?
If there is already a way to do this, please let me know.

Create Investment Account
Create Security called Superman#1 - set a price
Add the security to the investment account
BUY 1 of Superman#1 at the current value/price
repeat for all

There are lots of ways to do this - it just takes a bit of creative thinking.

Yeah but it's not a natural way to do it, you have to be creative and have a workaround to do it, either with securities or with currencies. This request is for a native way to do it.

As a program that is based on accounting rules and methodologies, it is not easy to fit in anything like a list of items and their values given the account based methodology. I am thinking if it were to be possible perhaps some form of add on extension may be able to do something in this space, I think it would need to be something added on rather than in the core.

Your original request was to "track inventory and non-money assets such as collectible comic books, cars, cards, etc."
An asset account or an investment account does exactly that. If creating accounts and perhaps categories to track collectibles is too much effort for you, I'm afraid there's not much more MD can do. Good luck.
