Importing QIF

Hi,

I am having issues with the import process. Each week I download and import a QIF from my credit card, and while this generally works ok, I've found that transactions that happen frequently will often be matched to historical transactions, months or even years in the past. For example, a newly imported transaction dated in Feb 2026 can be matched to a similar transaction in 2024, even though the dates don't match, and the existing transaction has been marked cleared or even reconciled.

Can you please update he matching logic to only check within a few days of the downloaded date, and not match cleared or reconciled transactions?

Thanks,
Adam

There is an option under File => Preferences on the Network tab to "Only match downloaded transactions when they at most x days apart".

When set to the default, Moneydance will match within the range of 90 days in the past and 14 days in the future. When you set a value it will apply that value to both the past and the future.

There are no settings to not match cleared or reconciled transactions. With QIF files it is quite conceivable that you could download transactions that have already been cleared or reconciled.

    Hi Adam,
This setting tells Moneydance how far apart two transaction dates can be for the program to treat them as possible matches. If you increase the number, you’ll see more match suggestions; if you decrease it, you’ll see fewer.
On the Default setting, Moneydance will match past transactions within 90 days and future ones within 14 days.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
