Thinking of rebuilding

I have been using MD for well over 5 years. Honestly, can't remember when I first switched. Love the product. I occasionally look at other, new solutions, but keep getting more boxes checked by MD than any other.

My question to the collective, do you/how often do you rebuild everything from scratch? There is a lot of garbage that has piled up over the years and I am thinking about starting all over and cleaning house while I am at it. Thoughts?

    Generally not recommended.

Things like closed account, no longer used categories etc are still actually "in use" as older transactions will use them, so something like deleting an old account and the transaction between that account and a still active account are gone thus corrupting your data.

The best idea is to use the Toolbox extension to remove redundant data, you could also consider using Toolbox to thin out price history data, or even remove price history of no longer owned shares.

If you are using Moneydance syncing you can also consider using Toolbox to rebuild the syncing data.

In my Moneydance data file I have some data going back to the 1980s, it is not a problem. I also have many closed accounts that I have marked as inactive, again no problem.
