This feature might already exist but i cant find out how to do it. I just signed up for the moneydance free trial and so far so good, this program is doing everything and more than quicken did for me. I see that one can pull up a spend report on the summary page that details the monthly spend and breaks it down into categories. I was wondering if there is a way to generate a spend report each month that only displays categories I select? I have a monthly budget and certain spend categories I use every month, but some of these expenses are things that are out of my control, like rent, loan payments, etc, and these show up on the spend report. I want to generate a monthly spend report that only displays categories I can control (like coffee and fast food category). The overall spend report is ok, but the report would be a lot less cluttered if I it only reported on monthly spend categories I selected? Can this be done already? If not, can it be taken as a suggestion for future versions? Thanks
can i customize a spending report?

Look at the two Income and Expense reports, you can set them up as desired then memorize those settings under a new report name.

but how do i set them as desired? On my sidebar I have 3 items that are
income and expense reports, expense reports, and income reports. But on any
3 of these reports it will tell me my monthly sped by category, but it will
not allow me to remove or add any categories to this report. So while I can
probably save it, it will be the same report with all the categories that
had a transaction in the month.

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Oscar
For example open the INCOME AND EXPENSES, DETAILED report from the Side Bar.
Then click on SETTINGS.
At the bottom of the window that opens you can select the Categories to be included in the report.
Set the other settings as required.
Then click SAVE to close the SETTING WINDOW and click MEMORISE to save the report settings.
Hope this helps.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: can i customize a spending report?
HI, ok that comes very close to what I want to do, but it lists every
transaction within the category I selected. Ideally I would like a report
that displays per month, my expenses based on category, but just the total
of the category, not each individual transaction detail. Is there a way to
do this? If not then I think I will just use the report that opens when i
click on the expenses/income field on the summary page. Thanks

There are two Income and expense reports, the detailed one lists all transactions the other just gives totals.

Hi Oscar
So as dwg suggests instead of selecting from the Side Bar INCOME AND EXPENSES, DETAILED select just INCOME AND EXPENSES.
Hope this helps.
