Hi All

OK, I've been using MD for a couple of days now and wonder if the following could at least be considered. It may be the case that some have already implemented and I haven't found my way around yet - your patience, please! I've numbered the points for ease of reference and, since I'm using the words so often: a/c = account, txn = transaction.

(1) Option for the user to choose the separator for sub-accounts/categories - or at least change to one that doesn't require SHIFT and thereby expedite input. (I know : is a common choice in accountancy software, but / would be just as good.)

(2) Sub-accounts/categories included in search, no need to type parent a/c first. eg Personal:Groceries would be found by typing just GRO (assuming no earlier matches) instead of PER:GRO.

(3) Tab from rate field starts new split (row) in split txns.

(4) A keyboard shortcut (eg Alt S) to open the split screen.

(5) Enter closes split, just like completing/saving a txn.

(6) Tab begins a new txn in a/c, rather than Cmd N.

(7) Esc to cancel, Enter to OK THROUGHOUT MD, not just on selected screens. Also up and down arrow moves between a/c types when creating new a/cs.

(8) Option to have Enter move across fields (ie instead of tab) and an alternative (eg Cmd Enter) to register the txn.

(9) Field for minimum (and possibly maximum) balances on each a/c (not category): this would be zero on a/cs that cannot go overdrawn, or the overdraft/credit limit. Perhaps some colour highlighting when close to/exceeding limits.

(10) Description AND Memo printed in reports for split entries, as well as single-category txns.

(11) In the Transaction Report, if All A/cs is selected, some sort of subheading (or similar indication) would be very helpful of the account on which the listed txns are posted. It's fine if it is for a single a/c, since the main heading of the report indicates which a/c was chosen.

(12) In split txns Description becomes the Memo field, since main memo would be used if single category. Personally, I used description for the payee (or payer) and Memo for a description of the goods/services: eg John Lewis, Dining Table & Chairs (respectively, the category being Home:Furniture). If I also bought a sweater, aftershave and a gift for my mother on the same transaction (OK, unlikely, but highly possible in a supermarket), then I'd detail these items alongside the relevant categories. However, some reports wouldn't indicate the items were purchased in John Lewis, except if entered as individual txns.

This is intended to be helpful, not critical! Here's hoping at least some will be included in MD 2010.

In anticipation

Colin

I've thought of a few more!

    (13) Option to hide cleared txns - maybe option in each a/c.

    (14) Option to export REPORTS (eg into Excel)

    (15) "Over time" reports, with columns for each month's total in, Income & Expenses and Account Balances reports

And one query. Can someone please explain to me the difference between the "Balance" and the "Current Balance".

    Many thanks

    Colin

OK - having just entered a post-dated txn, I now appreciate the difference between the Current Balance (ie today's) and the Balance (after the final txn on the a/c).

It took a little while, but I got there in the end! ;-)
