loans. I know envelope budgeting isn't a feature yet, but it would
be helpful if I could choose my budget to include money that is
transferred into another account (The Account name is the
"Category").

Say I take $50 from "Checking" and put it into "Stafford Loan".
"Stafford Loan" is my category (which links the transaction to my
loan account in MD). Unfortunately though, I cannot use account
names in the budget manager - only Income/Expense categories.

And I cannot assign the same amount of money to two separate
categories. Hrm.

Briantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/7466542010-01-26T19:58:00Z2010-01-26T19:58:00ZBudgeting: Allowing Accounts (Instead of only categories)

Hi Brian

I am sorry I have not responded sooner.

In the current version fo Moneydance you can specify account
types other than income and expense accounts in the budget manager.
The none income and expense accounts are at the top of the list. In
the attached screen shot I budgeted 200 USD per month on a loan
account.

I am not sure what you mean when you say "I cannot assign the
same amount of money to two separate categories. Hrm." Could you be
a little more specific.

Sincerely

file.

I set up an investment account for a mutual fund with a starting
balance. I then created a security and purchased with the cash in
the investment account, to assign all $ in the account to the
security (say $5k).

I then went to budget manager to set up a budget. One item is of
course my regular contributions to my mutual fund say $200
bi-weekly. Under "Category" I select the mutual fund account.

When I then look at my Budget screen, it shows "-$5k" in the
budget bar.

Shouldn't the spent money on the mutual fund be zero?

I tried doing this a number of ways, including doing the budget
first and account after and vice versa, with the same result.

r.vleggaartag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/7466542010-06-23T15:57:42Z2010-06-23T15:57:42ZBudgeting: Allowing Accounts (Instead of only categories)

R.Vleggaar,
