Investment Tracking Enhancements
It would sure be nice if the "Portfolio Summary" page of each investment account either displayed a column showing the security symbol or displayed the symbol by hovering over the "Security Name."
And...
If there were columns on the "Portfolio Summary" page that showed the latest trading day's price gain / loss (in amount and percentage) for each security.
And...
If there was a consolidated view page (or report) for all securities held across ALL INVESTMENT ACCOUNTS. For instance, I have 20 shares of XYZ in an IRA account and 10 shares of the same security at a completely different brokerage in a different investment account, and the new screen would show:
Security Shares Price Value Day's Change
XYZ 30 10.00 $300.00 .10 1.003%
If some of these requests are possible, that'd be great, and if they're already available and I just don't know how to find them, then if someone could enlighten me, I'd be... enlightened!
Thanks!
Jeff Smith

I'm interested in something like this, too. Each day I would like to be able to get a list of my investments and what their value is and how much each has changed that day. The profit calculator doesn't show this and I can't tell what it is doing since there is no time constraint on the report. The My Position extension seems to not care what investment I pick. It seems to report all my categories.

I am also interested in something like this. I would like to be all mac software but I am having to use vm fusion to run quicken mainly for investments. Profit calculator shows it will be available in the next version. I have 2010 build 735. I also tried my position extension and it pays no attention to what account you pick, it just does all accounts. I had moneydance 2008 and had hoped reporting would have been better in the new version. Will there be a portfolio view which will show daily changes to stock prices dollar amount and % amount? If not planned for near future, I guess I will have to try to find a software that will do some of this.

I too have been wanting some big improvements to the investment side of MD. I put a ticket in for the ability to see the % change of my accounts tied to the account and not each security and it looks like they have implemented a report in the next build (736) to start addressing that.
Read my ticket and if needed, open up some suggestion tickets on the trac/wiki site to cover your needs as well. Here is my ticket. http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2365
I'm itching to see what the new report shows and how customizable it is when it comes to dates.

Having used Money for many years, and Managing Your Money before that, I would strongly encourage better analytical tools in MD. % changes in the value of each security (and portfolio) after each day's download and more refined ways to look at the performance of each portfolio and its contents would better match what Money users have had for years. The profit calculator is OK but falls well short of what most investors expect.

A couple of more thoughts:
It would be nice to look at the various dimensions of investment performance which groups securities across all portfolios by type (stock, bond, mutual funds, etc.)
It would similarly be helpful to look at performance by custom dates, 10/1/07 to present, for example.

Wow, thanks for all the great input from everyone. Improvements like these are things that our development team is definitely looking at. I would encourage you all to take advantage of the trac site and post and vote for tickets so that we can figure out how to best prioritize our new feature implementation.

I agree Steve..
Jon, do you know when build 736 will be released so that we can start checking out the reports that are suppose to be included in 736? This will allow us to be more specific about new requests on the trac site.
thanks,

We're waiting with bated breath as well for release 736, but the best time line I can give you at the moment is "soon". I'll get in touch with our developer in the morning and see if he can give a more specific answer (which I will then post here).
Thanks for bearing with us as we work to roll out these new builds.

I couldn't tell what a lot of the tickets were for on the trac site to figure out what to vote for. I would also like to see the ability of Moneydance to access the asset allocation of mutual funds that are available on the internet. MS Money, e.g., access this information so that when one looks at the overall asset allocation, it includes the asset allocation split of each fund. Besides having a good history of individual asset values, it would be nice if the asset allocation graph looked at the asset allocation of each fund. Also, the asset allocation graph should have a drill down so that one can see the funds underlying each asset allocation pie section.

Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that we've released build 738. You can download the update here.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

Angie: A few questions from the uninitiated (like myself):
1. References above are to build 736, but your announcement is about build 738. What happened to 736?
2. It is less than clear to me after looking at the download link exactly what enhancements are here that were lacking in 735. Are any of the investment reporting issues referenced above addressed?
3. In looking through the tickets, I'm having some difficulty figuring out what your development priority queue is. Can it be found somewhere?
4. How stable / bug free is this build? How long would you advise waiting before installing it.
I'm relatively new to this app and the Moneydance community so apologies in advance if I'm asking if the answers are readily available elsewhere.

We're happy to provide support and answers to our users, no need to apologize! I am using build 738 and it's working fine for me, but if you want to be conservative it's completely fine to wait for the next stable release version, which will be Moneydance 2010r3.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thanks Angie. Leaning in the conservative direction, I think I'll wait for r3. Since you mentioned the release of 738 in this thread, I thought it might be addressing investment tracking and reporting enhancements.

It would be nice to be able to save account passwords across runs of Moneydance. It seems to want the password entered for multiple accounts at the same site. At Fidelity, for example, I have a 401k, a 403b, a 457b account. MS Money would store the password so I can get to all those accounts with one username/password combination. I don't understand why Moneydance can't do this. I have to type in a lot of passwords each time I do an online update when I've started up Moneydance. Since I use strong passwords, this is a real pain.
Regarding accounts, it would be nice if one could see the login information for each account in some kind of list.

Moneydance is able to store your passwords, but to do so you must first encrypt your Moneydance file.
To encrypt your data, go to File ->Encryption and then follow the steps below.
1. When the encryption window is displayed, click on the Encrypt Data File box.
2. Enter your password and then confirm the password by typing it again in the Confirm field.
3. Type a hint in the Hint field, in case you forget your password.
Note: Moneydance only stores your data where you specify, and therefore you have the only copy of your data. If you forget your password, there is no way to decrypt your data so please use this feature carefully.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you for the information that it can store my passwords if the file is encrypted. This works great and handles this particular problem quite nicely.
