Home Page Appearance
The Home Page can get quite full. Conserve some vertical space. In a list like Bank Accounts move the (Current Balance/Balance/Cleared Balance) box to the left and move the "blue total" up to the top immediately to the right of the (Balance) description. And do a VERTICAL ALIGNMENT of the decimals. That could save 3 or 4 vertical lines depending on how many types of accounts are displayed. The balances would also be much easier to read with the total right next to the description.
I always use the visual appearance of software as a guide to the quality of the programming. There appears to be a lack of effort in that regard. The Side Bar says "BANK". Why not "BANK ACCOUNTS"? The Side Bar says "INVESTMENTS". Why not "INVESTMENT ACCOUNTS"? This is how it is labeled on the Home Page. "GRAPHS & REPORTS" on the Side Bar. "GRAPHS AND REPORTS" on the Home Page.
I would also wonder why the "Advanced" select item window for the Side Bar shows header items like "BANK" in a different vertical order than the way they appear in the Side Bar.
I like the software. I hope it works better than it looks...

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback, I've copied your message to our design team. They are always looking for ways to improve the interface and I think more consistency in naming could be a helpful improvement.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Hi All,
With regard to the side bar, in an effort to preserve screen real estate, especially on smaller laptops, it would be my hope that BANKS and INVESTMENTS would remain the chosen heading.
The side bar should be kept as narrow as possible. I would go one step further in that the term (Memorized) that appears after memorized graphs and reports, should be reduced to just (M).
As it stands now, due to the appended (Memorized) moniker, the names of a lot of memorized graphs and reports on the sidebar are truncated.

Kevin N.,
That is a very good idea about the (M) memorize naming. And I do have a pretty wide screen so my ideas were only focused on me. Oops. My basic comment was intended to encourage the developers to look at, as Jon Hoover said, more consistent naming. The Side bar is very helpful but could use some help. I think the user should be able to select vertical header placement with UP and DOWN buttons. Also the header wording itself should be user editable.

Hi minikupr,
The sidebar is a relatively new addition to Moneydance. If memory serves, it was introduced in MD 2010. It has already gone through some minor changes. Redundant icons were removed.
I agree, customization is always an improvement and consistency provides a professional appearance that delivers a level of confidence in the underlying software.
