<p>What would you expect to be the outcome of such a merge? Are you
talking about creating a single transaction out of duplicates or
turning multiple transactions into a split transaction?</p>
<p>Ben</p></div>Ben Spencertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/14016642010-04-08T14:45:33Z2010-04-08T14:45:39ZManual merge of two items?<div><p>Ben:<br>
Thank you for the quick response.</p>
<p>I would expect the outcome to be a single transaction with
elements from all entries.</p>
<p>As an example:<br>
I create a manual transaction for a fuel purchase with the name of
the gas station in the description, other information in the memo
field (which car), the amount from my receipt, and the category
Automotive:Fuel.</p>
<p>I later import a CSV file from my bank statement that includes
the actual cleared transaction. Once I find the matching
transaction in the statement transactions I would like to highlight
both and have the option to choose which fields to merge into the
final record.</p>
<p>Ideally I would like to see all of the fields presented in a
dialog with radio buttons to choose between the different entries
for each field. The resulting record should be depicted in the
dialog for review before accepting the change.</p>
<p>This function could also be used to merge duplicates from import
mistakes.</p>
<p>Thank you again for your attention.</p>

directly using OFX direct connect Moneydance will mark these
imported transactions as "unconfirmed" clicking on an unconfirmed
transaction brings up an accept dialogue that allows for merging
with matching transactions. there is an existing ticket to mark
transactions imported from csv as unconfirmed such that they can
access the same dialogue. Here is the link to the ticket.</p>

Thank you for the pointer to the Trac ticket about making CSV
import items "Unconfirmed" and feeding them to the
accept/merge/match engine. That will greatly reduce my current
workflow.</p>
<p>That being said, I still think there is a use for a manual merge
function in the event transactions are not similar enough to
trigger the accept/merge/match logic. For example Wells Fargo has a
tendency to radically change descriptions between pending and
posted transactions.</p>
<p>I also think that a dialog to help merge two (or more)
transactions on a field by field basis would be useful. Giving the
user more granular control always helps with the frustration level
when the software's automated functions can be too smart of their
own good. I am think of Visio here.</p>
<p>Thank you,</p>

<p>I apologize that we haven't replied to you before now. I like
your suggestion and agree with your reasons it would be useful. You
certainly can create a trac ticket with this idea and it can become
a modification that we make at some point in the future.</p>

I am unable to create a ticket in Trac. My newly created
"BradSteffen" account apparently does not have sufficient
rights.</p>
<p>Thank you,</p>

<p>The trac system requires that users authenticate after
registering. This means that trac will have sent you an email and
you need to follow the instructions in this email to prove you are
not a spam bot before you get the privileges to create tickets.</p>

I completely understand the anti-spam step. However, I have
followed the emailed verification link and still do not have rights

<p>We've been having some issues with our trac site and are in the
process on migrating to new system that allows support staff to
create a ticket directly from the forum post.</p>
<p>I will pass this on to the developers.</p>
