Closing an account
Moneydance not appear to have a feature which allows an account to be marked as closed. The option to ignore accounts with a zero balance is not good enough because it can mean that accounts which are live but which happen to have zero in them for time to time get ignored. I request that Moneydance add a feature whereby an account can be marked as closed and the option to ignore zero accounts be changed to ignore closed accounts.

Hi Richard
I am not sure I understand the problem with setting the option "Hide on homepage if zero balance". You say that "[this] is not good enough because it can mean that accounts which are live but which happen to have zero in them for time to time get ignored". The "Hide on homepage if zero balance" option is set for each account. It is not a global preference. If an account is live do not set this option for that account and it won't be hidden.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

hi ben
thanks for your reply. i worded my suggestion badly. my concern is primarily with securities within an investment account. i can only set the hide if zero option for the investment account as a whole and there are times when a security has zero value. it seems that securities that have a zero value are automatically excluded from the home page (even though i might not want that to happen). but in an account balances report, i have to select/deselect each specific security. these are changing all the time so i would like to have the ability to close a security or any type of account, and then have control on the home page and in relevant reports as to whether i want closed accounts included or not. it would replace the hide if zero option. in ms money (where i have transferred from), closed accounts are greyed out on the equivalent of the home page and reports have the option to include closed accounts or not.
regards
Richard

thanks ben, i'd be great if this is implemented.
i submitted a request on 1st august, "Information on Home Page and Account Balances report", which seems to have been overlooked since quite a few other questions which are more recent have been looked at. any chance of getting an opinion about it?
many thanks
Richard

Closed an account. "Hide on homepage if zero balance" is fine, but the account is still listed in the accounts pane on the left hand side of a transaction window. What do you suggest?
Thanks.

I located in another thread an answer to my question: click on the minus sign at the bottom of the accounts sidebar.
I never noticed those buttons before! :-)

Moneydance has now implemented a feature which permits users to mark an account at "Inactive". This feature is available in Moneydance 2011, which is offered as a free upgrade to those who purchased Moneydance 2010, and for $24.99 for those who purchased an earlier version of Moneydance. To see which upgrade you quality for you can use the key tester tool available at the bottom of the Moneydance purchase page.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
