I found the following suggestion and would like to further comment on them:
Downloaded transactions from bank -matching process

I use MS Money and like the way it does the matching for matching and non-matching transactions. The download process downloads directly into the same register but highlights (i.e. bold) all downloaded transactions. If I click on one of them that Money found and flagged as matched it shows 2 buttons inside the transaction to either accept or change the transaction. In most cased I just click the accept button and i am done.
For un-matched transaction the downloaded transaction does not have any category assigned. In this case I click on category field, enter my category/sub-category and then click the accept button. All set. The transaction is changed from bold to normal, this inicating that the merge is done.
This process is fairly simple and clean and I had never any problems with either new or matched transactions.
I would like to see something similar (or the same) in MD as well.

    Gerd,

Thank you for your suggestions. We are currently working on improvements to the matching functions of Moneydance, and it is very useful to us to have direct feedback from our users.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    Hello,

Can I also suggest that you improve the matching function so that it tries to reconcile according to planned transaction. This will improve a lot MoneyDance usability.

    Kind regards,

    Emmanuel

I am not certain what you mean by "so that it tries to reconcile according to planned transaction" could you elaborate?

Well, I'm a french user, so that can explain I'm not clear. You know that you can define scheduled transactions for your most frequent expenses. As a matter of fact, in my case at least, when I reconcile transactions from my bank operations, they are not matched at all with scheduled transactions I have, even if the date and the amount are the same. On the other hand, I would like to have a report on future account positions takin those planned transaction into account, but I didn't find a way to do this neither. Perhaps those functions exist and I'm just wrong in my way of using MoneyDance ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

    Regards,

    Emmanuel

    Emmanuel,

Are you having the scheduled transactions entered in your account registers? To so this, check the "Auto-commit ___ days before scheduled" box in the reminder creation screen. The program should then be able to match the transactions. If the transaction is not entered in your account register it is not possible for Moneydance to match a downloaded transaction with it. If you are already setting the preferences for your reminders (scheduled transactions) to auto-commit, do let me know as this will help us to diagnose the issue. Please also include your OS, the versions of Java and Moneydance you are running, and the bank you are downloading transactions from. Good luck, and do let me know how it goes.

    Angie,

Many thanks for those explanations. I didn't activate the auto-commit option on scheduled transactions, since I wanted them to enter into my accounts only when they are registered by my bank. The main reason for this is that some scheduled transaction might be forgotten or planned date my vary. By the way, I will give it a try, but this is odd that we need to have transactions registered for them to be matched.

Regarding my OS, I use generally Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bits version. But I also use sometimes Linux (Ubuntu mainly) on a 64 bits version. Each time, I use Sun Java latest JRE version (1.6.21 nowadays).

    Best regards,

    Emmanuel

    Emmanuel,

Yes, please do try auto-committing and see if the matches work for you then. The short reason for the reason why matching works the way it does is that Moneydance once currently looks in the account register to find transaction matches. It doesn't look at reminders for precisely the reasons you list- they might have been forgotten, or the date or information changed, or skipped entirely this time around. It's possible that we might make this feature available someday, but it would be a major undertaking and it is unlikely to happen in the forseeable future.

Good luck with the auto-committing, and do let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    Hello,

Many thanks for your answer. However, it doesn't work like I would like, but I cope with this behavior.

    Kind regards.
