WIll the iPhone app, in any future release, be able to replicate a "home page " similar to the standard MD home page.....probably just with ALL account current balances including Investments?

It would help convince my Bank Manager that I know exactly what I have!

Many thanks,

Colin

This is a problem. I've just started to evaluate the software over the last 3 days in my transition from MS Money which I've used for 10 years. I love the syncing feature Moneydance has with my iphone and laptop but I am dissapointed in the fact I can't see my investment portfolio on the iphone! Please crack some code.

    Also have these other suggestions:
    1. Forced sync button/pulldown - It seems difficult to sync after the 1st time but once I did the order described in the knowledge base. Maybe just add a sync button to the iphone app in the cog on the lower left that has just a passcode toggle. This seems like an intuitive place to look for such a feature.
    2. Syncing via USB - It has worked the 2nd time if I follow the instructions above exactly, I need to sync via USB because I teather through my iphone on the laptop for internet access. Wifi only is not an option.
    3. Investments:Return of Capital - If you have investments that returns capital from the original investment and thus reduces the cost basis without affecting number of shares, like a dividend but reduces the original basis by the amount of the return of capital. I have not found a way to reduce my cost basis in that situation accuratly.

1&2) We believe the intermittent syncing issue is caused by some routers not correctly forwarding the bonjour discovery message that the iPhone app broadcasts to announce its presence on the network. Adding a "sync now" button would not resolve this issue as the announcement would still not reliably go through. We are however working on an alternative solution that will use an internet cloud based solution that will enable a sync to occur provided both devices have access to an internet connection. We are confident that this will be a simple an reliable solution that will be much simpler that implementing a usb sync solution for all operating systems.

    3) One work around for representing a return of capital is as follows:

Create a "Return of Capital" Income account to which the amount received can be
    credited.

Then create a "SellXfr" entry for the total cost and shares of the respective
security using the above Income Account as the Transfer Account.

Then create a "BuyXfr" entry for the "Original Cost" less the "Capital
Return" for the total number of shares.

The above entries leave a Nil Balance on the "Return of Capital" account and
decrease the Cost of the security by the required amount.

    Sincerely

Any more consideration on adding "Investments" into the iphone app? Also, I agree with the other people about the syncing issue. A "Sync" button would be great.

After a 6 month trial I've decided to abandon MoneyDance and revert my personal finance accounting back to MS Money.  Since I think MD has promise I will again not my pros and cons with you in hopes that someday a new MD version or update will have these improvements.

    1.  Syncing app is great but has two snags, syncing to desktop app is not automated and the app does not sync "investment" accounts.

    2.  Investment reporting in MD is not broad enough, it should include capabilities that includes return calcs for various time periods, average cost per share, realized gains, unrealized gain and price appreciation in a summary report.

Without these improvements, I can see how MD is any better than other (free) software out there for simple budgeting, bill payment and passive investment account management.

Thanks for the follow up. I am following up now in anticipation that improves are being made to MD on these subjects.
    1.  This syncing app is a big + for MD and I have learned to work with the syncing issue, it works only if you remove it from the iphone task bar and restart the app.  I must admit it is bothersome but none the less working most of the time following this procedure.

    2.  I struggled for weeks to get the return on capital calc to work.  After recreating the account in a spreadsheet I was able to understand how MD does it using your procedure but it must be done by share block.  I will still have to use this spreadsheet to "correct" the MD reporting of cost basis over all share blocks.  This is really bothersome (why have a one package product that can't do everything in one place)

I only have 7 transactions before being required to purchase the MD software and complete my transition from the now unsupported MSMoney.  I have explored the work arounds for keeping MSMoney alive (automated account updating) and abandoning my MD trial.  Since I am not a python programmer and don't have to wherewithall to learn it I will be sticking with MD, thus I leave my grevinces with you.

Investment reporting in MD is not satisfactory (even with the very limited extension out there) and this is a major difference from MSMoney from a personal money management perspective.

As an example please consider adding investment reporting capabilities like that of the attached screen capture that includes return calcs for various time periods in one report.  Also add capabilities to the "investment report" that include average cost per share, realized gains, unrealized gain and price appreciation.

Also, as previously requested please consider adding investments to the app.  It seems odd for all other accounts to show on it except investment accounts.

These suggestions would greatly enhance your product above that of other available software in the marketplace for those whom want a robust financial management platform that provides the whole picture above just budgeting and monthly bill payments offered by some many others.
