Sidebar Icons Are Just Wasted Space
The icons on the sidebar next to, for example, bank accounts, are totally unnecessary, because all bank accounts have the same icon. Ditto for all credit cards and investment accounts.
The only place you'd need them is to distinguish graphs from reports. Solve that by having one heading for graphs and one for reports.

Here's a mockup to show you how nice it could look.

I tend to agree. With the accounts already grouped by type the icons are superfluous, though there is something to be said for consistency with other application (e.g. itunes). I have created a suggestion ticket and attached it to the discussion.
Thank you for the feedback.

I'm using the preview of MD2011 (778) and miss the sidebar icons, but agree they take up too much space. Perhaps just on the Headers? (Bank, CC, Investments), etc.

Hi Jamie,
We've been thinking about doing just that, and a number of folks have requested it. I've filed a ticket for it. We'll let you know if we implement that change.
