Why not make the user guide a wiki?
I'm a new MoneyDance user, and I'm frustrated by the user manual, as I take it you are and other users are. I am enjoying the program, and think I will finally be able to get my Mac to Mac only (because I can give up Quicken!).
I've noticed that you provide a lot of good data in these forums, and you're extremely responsive. And there are a lot of users with excellent suggestions and helpful insight. But if you're new, it's really hard to find it, and it's not really all that user friendly (even though it's chock full of good information).
So I was thinking - maybe you should make the user guide a wiki? Maybe then, when you or one of the excellent user participants responds to a question and you think it might be of broader interest, you could add the requested information to the relevant part of the user guide, and put a link to that in your response, rather than having all the fragmented responses throughout.
Obviously, this wouldn't replace the forums, and there are a lot of questions and answers that wouldn't lend themselves to this, but I think you could really leverage your hard work by finding a way to collect the information "on the fly" in a format that would be easier for the novices like me to find.
Anyway, thank you for considering it, and thank you for freeing me from Windows!

Hi Erica,
I think yours is a great idea!
It is becoming increasingly difficult to refer users to information that has already been discussed on these forums but that has not yet been emended (or is it amended?) to the User Guide.
Due to the inherent nature of discussion forums many great suggestions and ideas get burried in the morass within a few days time. As I'm sure this one will.
From what I've been told, there are improvements in the works for how Bug Report and Suggestion tickets will be made accessible. As it stands, they're both virtually impossible to reference since there is no central listing for them.
I have a feeling that after January 31, 2011 when Microstoft puts the final nail in online updates for MS Money, things are going to get busier on these boards.
If and when the MD Support Staff assigns a Ticket to your idea, I'd like to give it my 'Yea' vote now.

Hi Erica,
That's not a bad idea at all. I'm not sure exactly how the details would work, but it's certainly worth discussing and figuring out if the benefits and how we might go about it. I've created a ticket in our system and started a discussion amoung the support staff to see how we might implemented this. We'll keep you posted on the results. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for using Moneydance!
