"Do you want to save" query when closing program.

I remember MD routinely asking me whether I wanted to save changes when exiting the program. Recently, the program has been closing without this "final question," which makes me wonder whether the changes were taking effect. Could this be an intended revision in the program, or perhaps a bug?!

    Hi JLDC,

MD 2012 introduced a periodic Save function.
In the current preview build, currently 860, the user can delay the Save until they quit the program. File > Preferences > Backup tab.

Actually, "want to save changes?" comes up when, for example, I edit the
amount on an already-registered transaction. But there's no similar query
after entering a NEW transaction and then exiting the program. Makes me
wonder whether the transaction "took" or not! Is this normal program
behavior or is something amiss? Thanks for any clarification.

    Hi John,

It sounds like you're clicking away from the transaction before saving it to the register. After editing a transaction (or entering a new one), can you try pressing enter to save it before clicking to something else?

I agree. The abrupt way that MD 2012 closes now leaves the user speculating.

IMO, there should be a notification before the program quits that 'Moneydance is now Saving the file'. (or something to that effect)

There has been a lot of discussion on these forums about the pros and cons of the new automatic periodic Saves and the removal of the ability to manually Save and manually 'Save As'.

The result is that the preview build can now be set to automatically Save periodically AND Save when the program quits or it can be set to ONLY Save when the program quits.

Manual Save has been restored, albeit only through the use of the standard key-combo.

'Save As' is doable through the use of Archive but there are still a few bugs in the process. http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/problems/7286-archive-into...

So yes, the 'Save the Changes' prompt for txns remains and can be bypassed as Scott Meehan points out, by hitting ENTER. But the 'Save the Changes' prompt for closing out the program has be removed by design.

Kevin- thanks for your reply and info. Before quitting, the message
"MoneyDance is now saving the file" would solve the problem completely.
Hope some enthusiasm can be generated to implement this fix/improvement,
which would presumably be quite straightforward. .
