I was hpoing perchance MoneyDance would consider working on a Windows Phone 7 app. I've heard there's an iPhone App, however; I dropped my iPhone for a Windows Phone 7 and would never turn back. I'm not sure how the iPhone app ties into the account tracking and all that as I use dropbox to hole my files so I can access the files from both the office and home, as well as keep backups in all three locations, but to be able to view/edit the ledger on the phone even if it doesn't save it to the desktop copy until syncing, or even manually would be wonderful.

Hi, I have been looking for a replacement for the UK version of Quicken that I have been using since 2004 IIRC and Moneydance has some good reviews so that's my job to read tonight. If you had a Windows Phone app, I would already have bought! My normal use would be on the PC but being able to use WP app (pref via SkyDrive) in addition would, I think, make Moneydance unique.
A replacement for Quicken with UK localisatiion and Windows Phone app? Where do I send the cheque?
    Pretty please, Mike

Its really just a numbers game its not that we have anything against the WP platform - if the Windows Phone platform becomes significantly more popular we will likely write an app for it. At the moment it seems unlikely that sales of a Windows Phone Moneydance app would cover the costs of development and support.

    Hi Ben,

I appreciate your reply and I don't really have any criticism of your position. I'm not suggesting a stand-alone Moneydance app; rather one which links to or views the "main" app on my PC. But you're the experts, I'm just a consumer.

As a consumer of Windows Phone platform (since it was WinCE) I am very frustrated with Windows Phone (from 7.5 upwards). I have to use it because of the integration with my business environment and it is difficult to find "serious" applications that run on it. Add to that I'm in UK so I'm in a minority market of a minority platform.

So from a "responding to the market" POV, I see what you mean. But from a "get in first and appeal to users desperate for proper apps on WP" perspective, you could possibly end up in a dominant position. It's a question of do you want 50% of a small market or 1% of a big one. And that's a business decision I am happy to leave to you guys. Sometimes it's easier to make some margin where there's less competition. I forget what I paid for Quicken 2004 but I think it was around £80. I would not expect to pay just £2.99 for a capable replacement on my PC. Anyhow, you guys already get a red star for bothering to respond so thanks for that and best wishes. Best Regards Mike

    Hello MoneyDance team,

Just wondered if you have any updates on a Windows Phone App? Oh, and a plea to consider creating one if still not in-plan.

This OS seems to be getting more popular and now Microsoft have announced the purchase of Nokia devices, I'm sure the demand will grow for sure.

Personally, I use MoneyDance on W8 laptop and on IOS (iPhone and iPad). I've just got a Nokia 925 for work and it would be great to be able to Synch to this too.

    Many thanks,

    Dom (UK).

    Hi Dom,

We currently have no plans to release a Windows Phone App. According to reports, Microsoft still only has around a 4% market share in phones, and as Ben explained it really doesn't make sense for us to spend limited development time on such a small market. Microsoft has said that they are aiming to triple their market share over the next five years with the acquisition of Nokia and some analysts agree this could be possible (see for example http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57601258-75/windows-phone-market-...), but I think that that we are unlikely to take any action towards developing an app for this platform unless we see this actually starting to materialize.

    Hello,

Windows users can already download, purchase, and install Moneydance directly from our website rather than having to go through the Windows Store. I'm not aware of any discussion at this point to get our product included in their store. Is there a particular feature you wanted included in Moneydance that would somehow be a part of the product being listed in the Windows Store?

    Thank you for your reply.

I was referring to Windows Phone 8. There is no version for this operating system as far as I can see.

    With kind regards,

    Dom.

Been a Moneydance user since 2007. It would be nice to have a Modern UI version of the application, which would allow you to run Moneydance on a desktop, laptop, or Windows tablet, whether Windows 8 or Windows 8 RT.

There seems to be interest in this (which would then make a Window Phone app very easy). Perhaps if it is an issue of money, then the company could open up that project to volunteer programmers to do some or most of the heavy lifting. The product's continued updates are awesome, but it's refusal to code for other mobile platforms (Android, as an example) will eventually lead people like me to look elsewhere for solutions.

    Just food for thought.

    Hi Jeffery,

We're happy to work with anyone that would like to make a Moneydance app for Windows Phone or any other mobile platform. For example, we worked very closely with the creator of the HandyBank Moneydance app for Android. However, we just don't have the resources to lead such a project.

Creating a Modern UI version of Moneydance is something we have thought about. However, it would require a major rewrite of the program. It would also make it much more difficult for the program to remain cross-platform, which we value highly. So, we are unlikely to undertake such a project in the near future.

Hello Jessica, is there a recommended means of getting in touch with the dev team? I'm a developer with almost ten years experience and have apps on all the major platforms including Win RT and WP8 who's also boon a moneydance user for a long time (admittedly not much these days purely because I use windows mobile devices when I travel) I'd like to see what kind of support / agreement we can come to.

    Hello!

As the founder and lead developer of Moneydance, I think it would be a great idea to have a community/open-source effort to build a windows phone, and even Android version. I would certainly take part in it, but windows phone especially would be a learning experience for me. Any mobile (and even desktop effort) could make use of the existing syncing mechanism in Moneydance.

If you're interested, please send me a message at sreilly @ infinitekind.com.

    Thanks!

    Sean,

Thanks for the wonderful response and openness to this idea. I do note that in an effort to grow the WP platform, Microsoft does provide assistance to get apps coded and in the Store, going to far as to even do the coding work themselves. You may want to also reach out to them to see if there is a beneficial relationship that could be entered into. Given how horrible the alternatives to Moneydance are right now, your company has the opportunity (if coded for both WP and Surface tablets) to grow and gain additional customers.

I am also keen to have Moneydance on my Windows phone ... but while I'm waiting I've downloaded the app called Accounts Tracker. It is very good and I run in parallel with Moneydance. However, it does mean double entry of transactions. But as most of my transactions are Standing Orders/Direct Debits and Credits (Reminders), manually entering the odd purchase is not too time consuming.
Now I always have an up to date reconciled balance on my phone!
