I'd like Moneydance to add the ability to move shares between investment accounts. I'm referring to moving shares in kind (as opposed to selling the shares and moving the cash). I don't think there is a way to record this transaction in Moneydance. This is important because when you move shares in kind, you don't realize any capital gains, so you need to preserve all the transaction history in Moneydance to keep accurate capital gains reporting. As it is now in Moneydance, you would have to re-enter the entire share purchase/sale history in the new account, which is unfeasible if you've got a lengthy transaction history.

John, I understand that this is a not uncommon transaction particularly when funding new investment accounts. Yes, there is indeed no way to do this other than selling and then transferring the cash from the sale of the security. So I don't have a workable solution for you. Unfortunately, it is not easily feasible for us to add the ability to make this type of transaction possible because of Moneydance's innate design.

Particularly because you are such a prevalent source of help to users on the forum I wish I could give you a different reply to your request/suggestion.
