Re: Moneydance 2011 (791)

I apologize if some of these have already been asked (and answered) - if so - feel free to just provide a link to the existing thread(s) as a response - I found it rather daunting to search through all the posts that exist.

  1. The ability to set a data for the per-account Portfolio view
    • I did manage to find the thread that pointed me to the Portfolio Report, where I can get an as-of-date view of my holdings, but I still think it would make sense to have this option on the per-account Portfolio view since you're basically in there when you're trying to reconcile your statements against the data.
  2. Investment accounts: I've noticed that there are certain fields in the register that get automatically populated with the first entry available for a list-selection field - this is both annoying and confusing, especially when the information shows up during New Transaction, but then [thankfully] goes away after you hit Enter to save the entry.
    • E.g. 1: An downloaded DIV automatically populates the Category field with a grayed-out value of the first Category in the list of possible Categories
("fix" was to Edit that Category and change it to a blank - but that should be handled internally without my having to create a blank Category)
    • E.g. 2: A New Transaction automatically populates the Security field with the alphabetically first security associated with that account - even more confusing since the default Action is XFR which doesn't use Security - this one goes away (for XFR) once the entry is submitted - but again, it shouldn't be auto-populated (IMO)
  3. When going through the Online Banking Setup > Select a Financial Institution - it would be nice if typing a letter (or sequence of letters) would scroll the list to the first entry that begins with that letter (or sequence of letters) [case-insensitive]
  4. When switching between Portfolio View Register Securities Detail - if in Register you had New Transaction enabled and switch out and then back to Register, the New Transaction line is still there (good) but it's not "active" in that keyboard commands (e.g.: tab, +/- for date, etc.) do not function - you have to click again on the line in order to make it active. Request: If New Transaction is enabled, when you enter the Register, that line should have the focus and be "active"
  5. When adding securities to an investment account, if you already added the same security to another investment account and defined its type and sub-type - that information should be pre-filled in when you add the same security to another investment account (it presently is not) I don't use the other fields on the adding a security form - but they too should probably be preserved in the same manner - at least as defaults (I could see cases where you might have different brokers or phone numbers for different accounts that hold the same security, but the type and sub-type of the security should be tied to the security and not the account in which it used).
  6. One Quicken feature that I miss in Moneydance: In the register, when you're in the Date field - Quicken allows you to preserve the date but jump backwards '[' and forwards ']' by months. I.e. If the date field currently says "02/15/2011" and I type ']' it will change to "03/15/2011". This couples really nicely with the Moneydance feature of using the currently selected register line's date when you click on New Transaction.
  7. Moving securities from one account to another. I recently rolled over a 401K account to another account (different institutions) but there doesn't seem to be a trivial way to indicate that the shares were moved without putting a Sell action in the first account and a Buy action in the second account (I started with a BuyXfr action in the second account, listing the first account for the transfer part, but it didn't do what I wanted). Quicken has a Move Shares action that allows me to do this without the false sell/buy transactions
    1. I did find this and this - but all those do is frustrate me a bit more since it seems to me that there is a fundamental flaw in the way the code is written which somehow prevents such actions from being able to be recorded properly and yet it doesn't sound like it's being dealt with at the appropriate priority level

That's all I have for now - still working my way through getting all my accounts set up (for various reasons I decided not to import my entire Quicken 2007 data file - though I do appreciate the fact that ability exists.
