CVS, tab-separated reports and currency formatting - all entries should have the same format
Every year end I export a bunch of reports for the fun of tax time and my own edification. One thing I struggle with each year is the amount of post-export processing I end up needing to do in both Excel and LibreOffice in order to actually be able to use the results.
One thing that is a difficulty is the lack of consistency in how values are written to the files - some of the values are written as straight numbers ( "7758.24" for example ) and some are written with currency symbols and thousands separators ("$ 7,758.24" or "$ 7 758.24" for example). I gather that the straight numbers are used for individual transaction records, while the ones with currency symbols and thousands separators are used for category totals.
I can understand that in some instances having currency symbols can be useful, and I suppose having the spaces or commas for thousands separators might make things pretty to look at, but I cannot think of a situation where I would want both of them for some entries in a file and not want them for other entries in the same file. Perhaps there should be more consistency and have them for all entries or for no entries.
Further to my suggestion, I would really appreciate having a box in the report save dialogue to check in order to either have the currency symbols included or not included for all the entries.
Some further experimenting after reading other old discussions about the CVS/Text output feature indicates I might be able to save some processing by using the "copy" and pasting into a spreadsheet, but that still has the inconsistency of some items getting the "$" and some not getting it.

Hi Johann,
Thanks for the suggestions for improving Moneydance! There are existing tickets in our ticketing system with your suggestion, so I've attached them to this discussion and the developers will be looking into them.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

I see the ticket numbers - but they do have any links with them. Is there any mechanism where we, the unwashed masses, can see the actual ticket info? Or are they hidden from our unsophisticated eyes?

No I am afraid the ticketing system is not publicly available.

Can I put in a suggestion about being able to see suggestions that are in your ticket system? ;)
Is there a way for us to see what discussion forum entry (if there is one -- as it might be private) or entries all refer to the same feature request? What I mean is that this post says it is linked to item #'s 3452 & 3065 ... is there a way for us to search and see the other public forum posts that refer to those tickets? Sometimes work-arounds that other people use might be useful to one person but the other person just needs for it to work as requested. If we could see the other posts associated with those outstanding issues, that would be great.

I believe that you can search the forums using the normal search function for the ticket number, and that will return results that include cases that have been assigned that ticket. It will also include results that use that number in their posts otherwise, but there usually aren't too many of those.
Unfortunately the ticketing system we use does not allow us to enable any of your other suggestions.

It doesn't seem to work. I tested it before I wrote that. For example,
if you go to this one:
http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/suggestions/8933-split-transactions-quick-view-like-in-v2010
You can see it has #4509 as the "case" (what do y'all call those #'s??
ticket#, Issue, case?). If you just put 4509 in the search bar in the
knowledge base it doesn't find anything ... unless I'm doing something
wrong.
If you have referenced that # in a URL that you send someone else in a
post, (meaning you are telling someone that what they suggested is
already suggested in link blah and link blah has the # in it, then it
will find that).
If you haven't though, it comes up with nothing ... or at least as far
as I can tell.

Hi Johann,
I believe if you include the # sign before the number, then the public discussions with the tickets that are attached should show up. The tickets aren't public, however.
I hope that helps! Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

I do not believe that is correct still. I searched for #4509 and the only result that came up was this thread since it has #4509 in the text. The question I referenced about about split transactions does not show up.

Hi Johann,
When I'm not signed into our system I'm seeing the results that you're seeing with that search. Unfortunately I'm not sure why that is, but the issue is on the end of our support system and I'm not sure that there's anything that we can do to improve the situation.

Hi Scott,
I started this discussion, but it is "zip" who has the tracker item search issues.
