Show other side in split transactions
When I select one part of a split transaction and select show
other side, I am taken to another split. In order to get back to
the original transaction, I must first go through several
splits.
Is there any way that MD can be set so that when I select a split, and click show other side, it takes me to the parent transaction rather than a different split?

JP, I'm not entirely sure I understand your question. Are you double clicking and bringing up the split items and then choosing "show other side"?
If you click on the split transaction item in your register and then choose "show other side", it shows you the other side of the first split item of the transaction in a new window. If you choose show other side again from that new window, it shows you the other side from the next split in the transaction and so on. Once you've seen them all, it takes you back to the original account screen. In this way you can view the other side of al parts of the split. Of course at anytime, you can close the window and return to the original account, however. Can you clarify what you want MD to do instead if this is different than that?

Let me try to clarify my question. I'm looking at a particular transaction that is part of a split. If I want to get back to the main transaction, I have to go through several splits.
Here's my situation: I split my paycheck into income and federal, state, local taxes. After entering this and splitting my paycheck, I can see how much I have paid to federal taxes by double-clicking my federal category. I want to quickly get to the parent transaction (my paycheck) from the federal category view. In order to do this, I click show other side on my federal split, but rather than taking me directly to the parent transaction, I instead see the state split. So again I click show other side and it takes me to the local split. Eventually, if I keep selecting show other side, I will return to my paycheck (parent transaction).
I don't want to have to go through each split to get to the parent because sometimes I have 8-10 splits! It would be great if the default could be set to go directly to the parent transaction. That way I can select whatever split I want.

Hi JP
If you hold down the Alt key and move the mouse over a transaction the splits of that transaction will be displayed.
Also if you double click your paycheck transaction and press Ctrl-L a window will be brought up listing all of the splits for the transaction and you can edit them from here.
I realize this isn't exactly what you are looking for. Let me know if you find this useful.
Sincerely Ben Spencer
