Transaction merge

Please, please, please revise investment accounts so that downloaded transactions can be merged with manually keyed transactions, and so that reminders (for things like a paycheck) can be set up with splits? Many, many people with a brokerage account uses it also as a checking account, like any other checking account, so it would be beyond wonderful if MD could do the same.

    YES PLEASE.
I have this issue with my Schwab One account - it imports my stuff to 'checking' but all backwards.
I used Quicken since 2011, and Money before that. Both worked with this fine (split out the 'cash' account part of the investment account)....

Apparently moneydance is more aligned with just having a checking account?

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the suggestion for improving Moneydance! There's an existing ticket in our ticketing system with your suggestion, so I've attached it to this discussion and the developers will be looking into it.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

Me too. Forced to abandon MS Money due to the Windows 10 upgrade. Moneydance seems very good but this will solve a lot of my issues with moving platforms

Please add another vote for this functionality. This time, my need isn't for an investment account, but a merchant account. If I have multiple sales in a given day or even within a day or two apart, even though each transaction is unique (with 2-3 splits), my bank account will receive a lump-sum credit.

It is a REAL HASSLE to have to print out the splits for one transaction, add those individual splits to the second transaction, then delete the transaction where I copied its splits. And, that's just for two transactions lumped-together.

There are days where I have 4 or 5 of these, all lumped into one transaction downloaded from the bank.

From a programming perspective, I see where this needs a bit of forethought. The main description for each transaction can be different, and each description within the splits could be different. Ideally your merge function won't lose this data, so you'll need to figure out how to reconcile all of that.

    Good luck. ;-)

I am currently evaluating Moneydance 2015 OS X and the inability to merge investment checking transactions nearly made MD no-go. Thanks to a workaround suggested by cookie87, I added a standard checking account and batch changed all the investment register transactions to this account to restore full merge/split functionality...Thanks!

Having said that, please add my vote to the development ticket to add this functionality to other account types. Many customers like myself use an investment checking account as their primary checking account.

Hope this workaround helps for a merchant account as well...good luck!

So, I don't see anywhere in the release notes that MD2017 has addressed this issue. Hard to believe given how basic this concept is (if I'm wrong, please tell me!). I cannot see paying for any new versions without this being addressed. What gives MD?

Can someone at Moneydance please respond? Many of your loyal customers have been asking for this functionality for a long time but you seem to keep ignoring us. What's up?

Just move my checking to my brokerage account. I NEED the merge ability as I enter all monthly transactions after my monthly payday in order to monitor cash flows. This is a must as I do not want to make a separate fake checking account as a placeholder. Please!!!

I just encountered this again today and when I can searching for a solution found references back in 2010 about this issue.

Please also put me down as a "+1", it would be nice not have to delete the duplicate events that end up being created each time transactiong get downloaded, particularly for transactions between different account - like when moving money to or from my chequing account from or to my investment account. If the chequing account data comes in after the investment account, the merging can be done from that end, but if the investment account data comes in first, then I need to accept the transactions, then delete the chequing account transaction, then reload the chequing data and do the merge.

I suppose I could work around some of this by creating a special, net-zero category called something like "transfers between cheqing and investments" and have each of these types of imported transactions go into that category, and when I do reconciliations just make sure that the category has pairs of matching transactions with a net zero value, which is what I needed to do when dealing with multiple currencies in investment accounts prior to them being able to handle that. However this doesn't really fix the shortcoming, but rather just addresses one small aspect of it.

I agree!! The lack of a merge-transaction function in an investment account has been an issue raised in these forums for years (I found a post in 2010 discussing this), with promises that a ticket had been created to add this feature. If there's a reason it can't be added, please let us know. Thanks.

This is the primary "thing" that's forcing me to stick with Quicken. I was hoping (after seeing requests years ago - 3 when I tried MD the first time - that this would be resolved... but no. Such a fail. Now, in April, I have to switch to Quicken's 'subscription' service model which really really hacks me off....

    Please Money Dance - Please!

Upgraded to 2019.1 and still don't have this. What about investment accounts makes them uniquely unable to have this basic functionality? I would pay for this feature alone, seriously. IK team, please put this high on your list of updates! Thank you!

I just paid to update also. Please, please add merge function for investment accounts. I just opened a second brokerage account and have duplicate transactions all over the place from transfering cash from one to another!!! I also use both as a cash management vehicle to pay bills.

The only solution I have now, not knowing what I am doing is to categorize them as misc with a value of zero. Not sure if this was the right thing to do.

Using Linux, Quicken is not an option for me.

    I'm a fellow user.

Investments as a whole needs work, Moneydance does not support all investment action types to start with, so there are some transactions that are impossible to record properly.

To be fair I do not believe the support staff are given any information as to what features are to be implemented and when, I expect the only one who knows is the owner and primary developer Sean Reilly.
