Easier way to assign sub-categories

Under the current system of assigning categories to payees, I am not able to type the sub category I want the charge to be assigned. For example, when I get gas for my car I wanted that assigned to Fuel under Automotive (Automotive: Fuel). But the system will not allow me to type Fuel, I must start typing Automotive, and then use the down arrows to go to fuel, or type out the entire entry (Automotive: Fuel). The same thing for when I buy groceries, or lunch...I want them to go under the Food: Groceries or Food: Lunch, but I don't want to type out Food to get to the subcategory

    Hi Tom,
In your Automotive: Fuel example, if you start to type Automotive, autocomplete will complete the word Automotive. At that point type a ( : ) colon. Start to type Fuel, autocomplete with complete the word Fuel.
The trick is in the colon. Insert your own joke here. :)

    Kevin,

Thanks for responding. While I am familiar with the colon point made below, it would be a nice upgrade (and time saver) to only have to type the word Fuel, and that expense automatically be categorized to Automotive: Fuel

    Thanks,

I, too, would like to see this implemented. It certainly would save time. Perhaps even starting with the colon and then the 1st letter of so of the sub-category would work well. For instance, in the example above typing ":f" would probably be enough to assign the Automotive:Fuel category.

Thanks for all of your good work in implementing user wants (and Iwo would have to categorize this one as a want and not a need._

I think this is a splendid idea.

It would be great if it worked the way Gmail uses labels.

I would very much like to see the same functionality implemented in the iPhone/iPad apps. Scrolling down to the right expense category while on the go is time consuming. To just be able to type the first letter of the subcategory and then pick from that list would save precious time.
