Is it possible to have a button on the Summary page so that we do not have to go to the tool bar to download quotes?

    JL,

That is going to be tricky - executing an extension from the Summary Page, But, hey, let's go for it!!

OR being able to execute any extension from the Summary Page.

You may have to implement such a function as an extension itself.

    Guys,

If we select the Stock Prices Widget to be put anywhere on the Summary Page, I wonder if we could persuade IK to place an executable remark of Update Prices next to the Stock Prices Remark (misleading since this Remark actually opens the Edit Securities Screen). Maybe this New Remark could run the Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension in the background. Of course, we might be listing a lot of securities on the Summary Page. (g)

    Oh, the possibilities! (LOL)

    Jerry,

I do not think you would want multiple buttons for the quote updates tool, it is really a global tool not something on a stock by stock basis. if there was a button next to each stock I think it would just be too much clutter.

I was thinking more of a tool that you could define multiple buttons like a shortcut, one would be the Quotes tool, perhaps another you could associate with the security prices entry tool etc.

    Thanks for your replies.

But a single button for would be best way to get the quotes.

As a Quicken user (for now) quotes are downloaded at the same time you download from your Financial Institutions.
Plus they have "Quote" button on the toolbar so you can update as needed.

    Des,
I am not sure why you were thinking I said anything about Buttons on a Quote Update Tool. I was talking about the Stock Prices Widget. I was talking about placing an executable Update Prices Remark next to the executable Stock Prices Remark on the Widget's Header Title Bar at the top of it's list. Sorry for the misunderstanding on my possible solution.

    Jerry,

My misunderstanding, I thought you were talking about a button alongside each stock price not something in the header bar.

    Hi All,

Back in May of 2011 ticket #3596 was assigned to request that the 'Update Now' button of the Q&ER updater receive initial focus when the updater was opened.

As of now it appears that the 'OK' button receives initial focus which isn't very useful.

With the 'Update Now' button as the default, the user could just hit ENTER to update prices. Ideally, focus would then move to the 'OK' button, allowing the user to again hit ENTER so as to close out the Q&ER updater.

Not as ideal as an 'Update Now' button on the Summary Page but I would imagine that changing focus is certainly doable.

I can kinda understand why you would have the default focus as the OK or similar functioning button.

By having an OK or cancel button as the default focus for an extension you can prevent mindless pressing of keys that could change something or have a bad effect on data. Hence to change something or do something requires a conscious effort.

    Hi Des,

Kudos. You have that uncanny ability to bring to bear the appropriate 'programming' ideal for which users would not even consider but... in this case, the user has to first open the Q&ER updater, therefore implying that the user wants to "change something".

This may be one of the instances where 'proper' programming gets in the way of ease of use.

I also looked at it this way.
If they could put the Find & Replace on the Summary page why not do the same and put it on the Summary page or the Tool Bar.

Didn't hurt to ask and won't hurt to try.

    JL,

I am behind you all the way!

Another Kevin (g) did that with Money Foresight.

I imagine that the owners (g) of the Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension could even connect to the Stock Prices Widget. Now who would want to place the Stock Prices Widget on the Home Summary Page?? (g)
