Matching algorithm needs improvement

I find the entering of downloaded transactions can be exceedingly frustrating. I remember months ago there were discussions about this, but I want to add my thoughts since I'm experiencing it now.

  • For payees I've paid before MD offers as a possible match a previous payment, but does not offer it as a "repeat payee". This is not always true-not sure when it does this & when not

  • For items with a check # & a description of "check withdrawal", it seems to pick the last entered transaction as a repeat payee. For example it offered to repeat the payee of check #1029 ($29) when #1030 came up ($100).

  • The way I'd like to see it work:

  • If there's a check #, unless the check # matches, do not offer it as a match. Offer as a repeat payee any previous check in the same amount. If there are more than 1 with the same amount, offer them all (or however many you want if there are too many) in the drop down list

  • If there's no check #, it would be nice if the algorithm could filter out useless info. For example all of my payments through my online service start with "Withdrawal". The algorithm should ignore words like that that appear in multiple transactions & look for the payee name & match that. If there are none, try the amount.

I like MD, but until there's Direct Connect for my accounts, this matching process is almost worse than starting from scratch.
