Account grouping

Back in January 2013, I suggested the idea of 'Moneydance Account grouping' and it was voted for by a few others and I understood someone in your team also found this very useful. I was hopeful that these options would be forthcoming in the future versions.

Years have gone by and several updates to the software - but I have not seen any updates on this as yet. You can simple google that text and you should find it.

Is this something that we can expect - or is this option discarded completely ?

Please let me know.
Thanks

Roney

Feedback on what suggestions might have made the "cut" for being implemented has always been a problem. A list (in the discussions or at top of suggestions category) of those that development plans to implement in future releases would be really nice - even just the top 10 or so.

    Hello,

Feature request in the order of listing:

    1. FEATURE REQUEST : ACCOUNT GROUPING IN THE LEFT PANE:

Please enable accounts to be grouped ( not just as BANK / CARD / INVESTMENT / ASSETS etc ) but also sub-groups under them.

Please see picture attached as an example

The above grouping should be visible in the left hand pane – and have ability to expand/collapse at will. The same goes for CARDS and ASSETS etc. Ability to sort based on BANK NAME, ACCOUNT TYPE, CURRENCY, ETC.

Better still if you have a search cell in the left – where you enter info and it would automatically find the account. This is especially useful when you have a large number of accounts.

    2. FEATURE REQUEST : VIEW INDIAN CURRENCY in its own special format.

    INDIAN SYSTEM
    WESTERN SYSTEM

    5,00,000
    500,000

    12,12,12,123
    121,212,123

    7,00,00,00,000
    7,000,000,000

    See this website for info

    3. FEATURE REQUEST: Email reminders

The grouping is the more important one

I could provide tons of improvement requests if these are welcome. Please let me know and I will begin to compile a consolidated list as I continue using the software.

    Brgds,

    Roney

    Hi Roney,

What you're suggesting seems like it can be somewhat accomplished through the use of Parent accounts and Child accounts.

You still won't be able to mix match account types and the Child accounts are not collapsible under the Parent but you can certainly group like account types together based on their financial institution.

I've attached a screenshot of an example.

    Hi there Kevin,

Indeed that is exactly how I am using it now – and I had provided a screen shot of this in my original submission in 2013. A few points to note though ( considering I have about a 100 different accounts – fixed deposits / savings accounts / current accounts etc spread over )…:

    1/

The left hand pane does show the parent/child account splits – but it is not possible to expand/collapse them in the left hand pane. However, it is possible to do this on the main summary page and in the right hand.

I like to compare them with email folders. It would be a bit odd if you have a complicated list of folders and they are static in the left pane ( cannot be expanded/collapsed ).

The ability to have this feature in the left pane is the key. You can imagine my predicament when I have the bank accounts split into 107 child/parent accounts to make sure they are grouped properly.

I have attached a part of the screen shot – to give you a glimpse of the problem. You will notice that the left pane barely covers a small portion of the list. The right is perfect – but what is needed is to have this permanently visible on the left pane. I hope I have been able to explain this well and am hoping this will be a simple fix for you. I am 100% sure ‘MANY’ users will absolutely love this feature when available.

    2/

If I am not mistaken, it was possible to resize the width of the left pane in some of the earlier versions ( I am not sure ). In the latest version, this is not possible. Either way, it would be good to resize this left pane and to have its contents displayed properly.

    3/

Finally, the drill-down search option to help drill down to the specific account – would be the icing on the cake.

    Brgds,

    Hi Roney,

I'm not a member of the support staff I'm a user like yourself.

I see your predicament. However I think that yours (100+ accounts) is a unique situation and not the norm. Still, I think that there remains room for improvement to the functionality of the left side bar.

The left side bar can be resized by grabbing the III icon in the lower margin directly under the left side bar.

    Hi Kevin,

Oh dear. I thought you were perhaps the support staff or the developer. My bad.

The 100+ accounts were created to help identify them separately. No one could have that many accounts. The use of the parent/child accounts helps me categorize and put them in order. But it is a feature worth having and some users have shown their keen desire for it.

PS. Thanks for the resizing option. Yeah.. I somehow forgot about it. Thanks.

    Brgds,

    Roney
