Quicken 2016 to MoneyDance Mac
Hi ,
I followed your directions:
http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other-programs/how-to-import-data-from-quicken-2015-for-mac
and then
http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other-programs/importing-data-from-quicken-in-qif-format
However I am getting huge discrepancies in the imported accounts.
For example, all the dates are wrong my credit card accounts. Only part of the accounts are imported. Also the dates are wrong. My 2015 transactions appear as 2017 entries.
Do you have a foolproof way to import Quicken 2015 accounts.
I have years worth of transactions and I'd really like to switch to your software but cannot afford to lose all my data!
thanks
Alaa

Hello Alaa,
Are you by chance selecting the incorrect date format in the QIF import settings window? This is the most common reason to have things like the year off in initial imports.

Hello Ethan,
The date format is correct. Quicken is DDMMYYY and I select the same on
the import dialog.
Can you help?
Alaa

i would suggest you have a look at the actual QIF file and see what the format is in the file, it is just a text file so is viewable in any editor or word processor

dwg, is correct the data format used in the QIF file is not necessarily the same as the date format you were using in Quicken. You may need to open the QIF file in a text editor and check the format used yourself.
Were you actually able to export a QIF file from Quicken 2016 or did you have to go through the export to QTFM and rename to QIF?

Hi Ben,
Thank you for your continued help
I really want to switch to your software. The little I’ve used it has already convinced me how much more efficient and faster it is than Quicken.
I looked into the QIF text file and although my accounts are in DDMMYYY format, the export is in MMDDYYY format!. So that’s now fixed. I simply imported using MMDDYYYY.- Thanks!
HOWEVER - the balances in the accounts do not match the ones in Quicken.
I did a little exploring and found that sometimes transfers between accounts are duplicated. The duplicated transfer is shown with square brackets- See attachments.
How can can this be fixed? I don’t want to do this manually.
thanks
Alaa
This is the Quicken screen grab
This is the MoneyDance duplicated entry with square brackets around the TXFR

Ben,
As a followup to my previous mail.
All the transfers with the square brackets are correct. It's the ones without the brackets that are duplicates. I have removed them in one of the accounts and the balance is now correct.

Hi Ben,
One other question.
My accounts are in different currencies.
Can Moneydance handle different currencies for accounts?
If I go to Account Info, I am unable to change the currency (it’s greyed out) see attachment.

...one more thing, MoneyDance does not have a choice for the currency
UAE Dirham. I live in Dubai and would like to select this currency for
my accounts. thanks

Hello,
It sounds like you didn't set the currencies for your accounts correctly before importing your data. This is described in steps 5-7 at http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other.... Unfortunately there is no way to change the currencies of accounts once they have transactions in them, so you will probably need to start over.
You can add any currency by going to Tools -> Currencies from the menu bar. Make sure to enter the currency ID as it is listed on finance.yahoo.com if you want to have automatic currency updates. Again, I would add any currencies you want to use for your accounts before starting the import process.

Hi Ethan,
Could you please help me with this issue?
I am trying to re-locate the moneydance data files (On windows 10) to my
OneDrive folder. This way I can access the accounts from my laptop too.
Could you send me step by step instructions?
thanks
Alaa

Hi Alaa,
To share your data set between two computers running Moneydance, you need to move your data set to a folder that's shared by the two computers. We recommend using your Dropbox. This article details how to do this.
Move your data set to your Dropbox folder, then open the data set from there on each computer (only on one at a time, to avoid corruption) and your data will sync between the two computers.
