how to import data from banks
I have used Quicken. Older version 2007. Tried to save data and transfer to Moneydance. Got error message. Got suggestions but didn't' succeed. Now I am asking if I can try a different method. Can I import data directly from my banks?

Hello,
The list of banks that we currently support direct connections with can be found at http://infinitekind.com/fi
Even if your bank doesn't support direct OFX connections, which Moneydance requires in order to talk directly to a bank, you can still get your transactions into Moneydance by using a web browser to download them from your bank's web site. You can download into QFX, OFX, OFC, or QIF files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance. You can also open your bank's download page directly (after entering the appropriate address in the Account->Edit Account menu) by going to the menu bar and selecting Online->Open Account Website.
Note that almost all banks have a limit on the length of time for which they provide transaction history. I've seen this as a range extending anywhere from 60 days to several years. This is entirely a decision that banks make on their own, and Moneydance can only work with the data that banks offer. It is very unlikely that you will be able to get your complete financial history just from bank downloads, and you will also have to recategorize your transactions when confirming them after you import them into Moneydance.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
Ethan

Thanks. I succeeded in loading my old data once I exited the trial program and paid for the software. Traveling now but once home I'll try to learn more about how to use Moneydance conveniently. Always a learning curve and I often learn better when I can ask questions so I appreciate your reply and offer of future help. . Laura

Hi Laura,
Great, glad to hear you managed to import your data!
If you are new to Moneydance, I would highly recommend checking out the User Guide, specifically the first few chapters which detail getting started and setting up your accounts.
Don't hesitate to get back in touch if you have any other queries or need assistance!
