i am setting up Moneydance for the first time. I did not want to import my Quicken data from my PC because it would require conversion and I am worried about duplication. I wanted to start fresh. Is there a way I can download my financial data directly from the banking institutions and not manually enter all of this information?

    Hi Stella,

Can you give me the name(s) of the financial institution(s) you're trying to connect to? You can download into QFX, QIF, OFX or OFC files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance.   You can also open your bank's download page directly (after entering the appropriate address in the Account->Edit Account menu) by going to the menu bar and selecting Online->Open Account Website.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

    Stella,

To enable the connection with Chase you can call them at 1-877-242-7372, or go with the simpler method and use their website. First, log on to Chase's site, and click the Customer Center Tab. Select "Activate Quicken, QuickBooks, etc." and follow the prompts from there. Good luck getting set up, and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    Hi,

I am not sure if MoneyDance will be right for my needs. I thought I could just important data from my bank and credit cards. However, the default category made this option untenable. So I decided to convert my data from my Quicken 2015 on my PC to QFX file. However, I cannot get MoneyDance to import it. It is not recognized. Do you have any advice?

Data downloaded form Banks will not have any category information. Banks have no idea what categories should be applied to a transaction, the payee name may not even be obvious to a human looking at it, hence you need to select the category for each. Over time Moneydance will increasing propose correct categories for transactions for you to confirm.

How did you get a QFX file from Quicken, as far as I know the only formats any version of Quicken have supported for export is QIF and a sort of CSV format.

    Hi,

I understand that the categories will not be assigned properly but I underestimated the amount of work it required to get all of my transactions properly categorized.

Regarding the data from quicken, I converted it into a QFX using the conversion tool from intuit for this purpose.
