I have all sorts of errors in the data transfer that I have spent three days cleaning up. With all of my Bank Accounts cleaned up, I made the mistake of entering my user id's and passwords and running a sync. Moneydance proceeded to enter duplicate and triplicate transactions for all of my Bank Accounts. I've now totally wasted 3 days of work.

1) What did I do wrong?
2) Is there a global way to get rid of all these duplicate and triplicates?
3) Is there an options other than deleting everything and starting over?

Thanks.

aasenentag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/471871502019-04-20T07:28:19Z2019-04-20T07:28:19ZTransaction Triplication!

I am not support staff, just a user.

Were you using 2019.2(1868) when you imported your QIF file from https://infinitekind.com/preview

I have done some testing with 2019.2(1868) importing a QIF file exported from a program admittedly not Quicken.
These are the steps I followed.
Create a new data set under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – NEW.
Deleted the two default Bank accounts, highlighting them in turn and using ACCOUNT – DELETE ACCOUNT.
Drag and dropped the QIF file into the side bar (list on left).
Waited for import window to appear. This can take some time, nothing appears to be happening. Checked all listed accounts were of the correct type and changed if required.
Click import and waited to values to file in, again this can take some time.
Some accounts were hidden under the “+” at the bottom of the side bar, added them back.
Checked that the initial balances were correct under ACCOUNT EDIT for each account. Some programs don’t export initial balances. For investment accounts remembered that QIF file don’t carry security prices other than buy sell prices so investment account balances are likely to be wrong until you update with current security prices.

If none of the above help I will post a link to this thread to Sean the software developer in the hope he responds.
Please details of the result, this could help figure our what is happening.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/471871502019-04-20T21:20:11Z2023-04-01T12:06:56ZTransaction Triplication!

I down loaded v2 and started over. That helped a great deal. It reduced the extra records to only duplicates and I’m cleaning those up with Matching. Thanks for your help! I didn’t know or find v2 until you told me it was out there.

Glad you are now making progress. QIF files were never designed to transfer data but its all that is available. It take a lot of time to sort things out but its worth it in the end.

Please let us know how you get on.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/471871502019-04-21T01:21:40Z2023-04-01T12:06:57ZTransaction Triplication!

Hello,

I appreciate your help and don’t want to be a bother. I’m trying to learn Moneydance but I’ve been a Quicken user for over 30 years so there’s a bit of adjustment trying to learn how Moneydance does everything different. Anyway, I have a number of what I call “X” accounts that include the name of an account with an “X” at the end and one or a few transactions listed that actually exist in the base account. Is this a bookkeeping account or just miscellaneous duplicated data that I can delete? Don’t want to go in the wrong direction. Thanks!

Hi Gene

The first thing to do is if you are about to do something you are not sure of is use FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – EXPORT BACKUP. This way you can use a FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – RESTORE FROM BACKUP if something goes wrong. In any event make regular backups.

The file naming convention is yourdatasetname-yyyymmdd-tttt.moneydancearchive
When you FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP you do not overwrite your existing data set, a new data set is created with the naming convention – from manual backup yourdatasetname-yyyymmdd-tttt.moneydance the date time code taken from the backup file. You can switch data sets using FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – OPEN.

With a backup in place you can afford to try things out.
If you believe that all the transactions in a X account are not required you can delete the X account using ACCOUNT – DELETE ACCOUNT.
If you believe some of the transactions in the X account are valid and need moving to the same account name but without the X then highlight all these transactions and right click BATCH CHANCE – ACCOUNT.
If something does not work use RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
If you have any questions just ask.
Hi Gene

Just to let you know a new build has been released to reduce duplicates on QIF import see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/switching-from-anoth...
