I would suggest you try with a copy of the Quicken Essentials file rather than a backup.

The option to import from Quicken Essentials is no longer on the Welcome to Moneydance page, so I'm not sure if the capability is still there, if not you can download an older versions of Moneydance and that should be able to import a Quicken Essentials file.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480793012020-02-11T07:59:38Z2020-02-11T07:59:38ZImport data from Quicken Essentials

I am not support staff just a user.
Hi Erin

You could also try the suggestion in this support article https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/importing-data-from-other-pro...

Hope this helps

derekkent23
