Switching from Quicken cost and questions

Hi,
I'll be diplomatic and say that I'm sick of Quicken's business practices and their software is also glitchy.

I run Debian and also Windows and like that I can put this on Linux.

My plan would be to import the Quicken data and then setup account transaction downloading. Any comments?

Is the $50 purchase price one-time or is the downloading going to be crippled like Quicken if I don't pay something every x months?

Thanks,
Mark

    Hi markbuys,

Automatic downloads in Moneydance are performed via direct-connect.
Financial institutions supported via direct-connect are listed here:
    https://infinitekind.com/fi
OFX, OFC, QFX and QIF file format are supported for manual downloads / imports.
CSV and TXT formats are also supported for bank and credit card accounts.

Take a look at this post from Moneydance support staffer Ethan with regards to licensing...

To add to the above information (and my previous comment on that other thread):

Importing from Quicken before setting up accounts for direct connections is almost always the best order of operation. Detailed information on importing from Quicken can be found at: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/importing-data-from-other-pro...

If you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free trial version from http://infinitekind.com/downloads and experiment with the program before you decide if you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test things like importing from other programs and connections with your bank. If you decide to purchase the program at a later date (from http://infinitekind.com/purchase) you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions.

In case you haven't found it yet, detailed information on how to use the program can be found at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb

Thanks guys. I loaded up the demo under Windows for now.

I have Quicken data going back to the 90's and multiple accounts, so this is not a simple conversion. I am exporting from Quicken 2017 Deluxe.

The import has not been clean and I have been manually fixing data, but it's a slog. I noticed the following:

    1. The first import I did was a .QIF for all accounts. I notice that cash transfers between two Charles Schwab accounts are not handled right. Often I found that the transactions were reversed. i.e. A transfer of $5 from A to B was imported as B to A.

    2. I have a small brokerage account at Fidelity which gets my credit card rewards. I have tried to import this several times, with the issue being that every deposit is imported as a withdrawal. Thus I have a balance of negative $x rather than positive $x.

    3. I have deleted and reimported the account several times. Upon reimporting, the deleted account seems to get recreated as "Restored 06ad11a4 blah blah"

    4. I cannot delete this account. It just stays there. edit: After restarting MD it is gone.

    Please advice.

    Thanks,
    Mark
