Importing data & Categorizing

Hi,
I import my transactions by logging into my bank, then downloading transactions. MoneyDance picks up the file end imports the transactions.
Does MoneDance auto learns the transaction categorizing?
ie at the next import, it will categorize the transactions using how I categorized them in a previous session?

Can you explain what you mean when you talk about your embedded browser?
Please advise.

    I'm a fellow user.

The embedded browser is in development. Its aim is to help downloading of transactions for the Bank's internet banking website, even to automate it by using scripts, but not requiring a specific setup like Quicken's proprietary Web Connect requires so in theory could work with Bank's around the world, it is quite ambitious.

So far it has not come too far down the track, too many other problems to be dealt with is I suspect the reason.

Over time Moneydance learns correlations between payees an categories but it will only do this with confirmed transactions.

Once it builds up history the software will increasing suggest a category for transactions which you can decide to accept or reject.

    just a user,

I think one thing that MD could do to make life a bit easier for those institutions that no longer support open direct connect is to allow MD to pop up a normal browser window for each institution when you click " Download All Account". Then as the "direct connect" stuff is doing its thing, you could be clicking the browser windows to login and do the remaining. Sort of like hitting Control Download on each account multiple times with one click. My browser has the login information for those accounts and a simple click logs me in to access the transaction download features I need. You could probably get a bit fancy and incorporate the internal link to the HTML link call to land on the specific transaction download page as needed.

In answer to the first questions posed in the original post, from what you describe, it sounds like you may not be going through the confirmation process after you download or import your data. Downloaded transactions should have a blue dot next to them in the description field. Clicking on a transaction with a blue dot should open a right sidebar with confirmation options. If the transaction is similar to one you have already manually entered, one of the options should be to merge those transactions. Choosing the correct category for transactions in the confirmation process allows Moneydance to improve its suggestions for future downloads. The more transactions you correctly confirm in this process, the better the program will become at suggesting the correct confirmation option from the start.

More details on the confirmation process with screenshots can be found at http://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/co...
